There was a group that were making a Bloomer class loco, they didn't know how to make the brass dome, some old guy said that " me and me mate's 'l do it", so they bought them the big sheet of brass required (that was really expensive) and those old guys used simple panel beating techniques to make the full-sized dome, not many people have the skills to do that now.

Dane here Loves the video. Odin is a pridefull addition to the Danish preserved fleet, and absolutely beuatifull. Fun fact about Odin: The Odin class of locomotives is only one of two danish locomotive classes with inside cylinders only. The only other one being the C class 4-4-0 from 1903

Even the buffers and six wheel tender are quite sizeable for the mid 1840s. Big cylinders, too, I like the little smokebox flare, very little metal used but it gives a very distinct silhouette. Interesting how narrow the footplate is compared to the period carriages. Very handsome locomotive, they seem to have quite a few of these characterful old chaps running.

Its funny to see that that DSB MY 1159 Nohab diesel in the background (built in 1954) is 64 years older then Odin! 😁

We should build one too. A working replica Patentee is just what we need in Britain.
@obelic712 жыл бұрын
You could lent our Dutch Patentee Arend (Eagle) for a while. She has been currently overhauled for here 80 year boiler inspection by law. She is a replica once build for the centenial celebration in 1938 and is now older then the original Arend (scrapped in1863) Be in mind se has GWR broad gage.

The sad Story is that they scrapped the last 3 cylinder litra R at the same time the build this replica and wanted to scrap the last litra H now the railroadsmuseum has been turned into something like a Player Park not a serious Museum..... R946 never forgotten never forgiven

The wheels are 5ft but somehow appear so much more diminutive compared to that *_mmmmassive_* boiler. A handsome machine. Would prefer to see the chaps on the footplate in period apparel, though.

The opening of this railway was commemorated by a composition called "The Copenhagen Steam Railway Galop" by the great Danish composer Hans Christian Lumbye. He has been called the Strauss of the North. This is the link to an excellent performance - near the end you can hear the guard calling out "Roskilde"! It is one of, if not the best musical representations of a steam railway engine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZbcd4qsmbiipM0

What an interesting looking engine. Great vid 👍 Will you ever do a video on an early North British loco?
@m0rtenpl1nd9 Жыл бұрын
My dad built that! :D Also. Though it is not possible to see. Between the frames there is a water feed pump. Because for safety measures we always have to have 2 ways of injecting water into the boiler. I hope everyone is happy with the wonderful replica... It did take 14 years to complete ;)

As soon as I saw Odin I instantly thought 'Patentee', but then 'Where are the valve rods on the LH side?' Is this the last version with the 100 PSI boiler, and does the valve gear have adjustable cut-off.

A bit nontechnical for me. This was part of locomotive evolution, so how far along was this? Some numbers would be helpful in this. For example: tractive effort, firebox area, heating surface, top speed, operating economy (meters/kg coal), maintenance requirements and expense, etc. Other videos of yours also seem a bit "fluffy", that is very light technically. Still you do bring these engines back into mind which is a very good thing. History should not be so easily forgotten. Cheers.

It's sad that GWR no 14 of this type which had been preserved at Wolverhampton was cut up in 1920

Possibly at the authorisation of one WA Stanier, who had other preserved GWR locos scrapped
@mikebrown37722 жыл бұрын
@@LeslieGilpinRailways I think it was W H Stanier who organised the cutting up of the broad gauge museum pieces and he would certainly have retired by 1920.

Do you have a comprehensive list of books you wrote? Some are on Amazon, others on Goodreads... I'm not sure where to start.

They should all be on Amazon - sadly the Amazon Algorithm does tend fo f*ck up occasionally and considers my books to have been written by a old chap who did National Service in the 1950s and I'm constantly having to fight the system. www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-dbs/entity/author/B0034OTMXK?_encoding=UTF8&node=266239&offset=0&pageSize=12&searchAlias=stripbooks&sort=author-sidecar-rank&page=1&langFilter=default#formatSelectorHeader
