I already made a Loki Ragnarok helmet out of foam and it's actually really strong! I put 2 layers of 3 mm foam on top of each other with some thin cartboard between it for the strength and it's holding up very well :)

Loki's helmet in The Avengers is quite different with that in Thor. Appearance-wise, relatively, yes. but his helmet in The Avengers is a bit thicker than the original. His helmet in Thor however, is a bit thinner which gave a much sleeker look. Also the color of the helmet in Avengers is brighter than the first one.
