YAY, build turned out awesome, elector forming or that mirror paint from the guy that made black 3.0 may work to make a super chrome. I think this shows that a later day for video release is possible to maybe help releave some life stress and give more time at home with the family
@phoenixstudios_offical2 жыл бұрын
So I don’t know if you’ll see this Odin but you probably have heard of or seen this product and it’s a reflective paint which is often called liquid mirror paint and you can use it in a air brush after the priming stage of the helmet and not only will it avoid cracking for a longer time but it will give the helmet a nice metal finish after combining the paint with a steel coloured paint at a 3:1 ratio and if you want a specific colour add in the colour of your choice at a 3:1:1 ratio

if you want a real chrome, try molotow chrome refill, try using that through an airbrush, it also needs to be applied over gloss black undercoat :)
@shannfranics89312 жыл бұрын
what iv started doing is stocking up on mirror faux leather it comes in alot of colour gun metal and chrome amongst them i cut out the foam patterns and glue the pieces and assemble, the pleather restricts some bendings that foam alone would have no issue with but with time you learn to structure the template to accommodate that and adding dirt, damage is also a great concealer ebay if interested

If you have a smooth surface, you should be able to airbrush the entire thing with Molotow Liquid Chrome for a shinier surface. It's alcohol-based so it would be flexible, but you'd need to seal it underneath a protective gloss layer or else it'll rub off.

See ... now this level of dexterity and finesse is why I only stick to making hand props and foam replicas (for on-set work: knives, hammers, axes, and the like). That, and too many years of using my hands as tools of my current 9-to-5 job (parcel processing for our national mail carrier): loss of sensitivity - and scarring - on my fingertips and my hands in general. Watching me trying to use my touch to unlock my smart phone is a comedy in itself!

Have you considered the Graphite powder technique used for some Madalorian costume pieces? It gives a super reflective shiny look the more you work it so I think it would be a better chrome look then the silver paint.

Take some 3d printing resin, thin it out to spray through an airbrush, then airbrush on the project. Then immediately cure with uv. Repeat till the project is covered. It smooths out great and adds a stiff layer so paint doesn't crack.
@OdinMakes2 жыл бұрын
So, you method for flexibility is to eliminate it? This will would work. as would spraying fiberglass epoxy resin.
@dragnridr052 жыл бұрын
@@OdinMakes Not entirely eliminating flexibility. But also cheaper than epoxy fiberglass resin, and easier. Even UV resin has some flexibility and makes painting chrome that much easier. With a thin layer of UV 3d printing resin cured over foam, you can have the stiffness needed for paint, but the same flexibility in case someone bumps into it.
@beckymurphy47142 жыл бұрын
DecoArt has a new cosplay paint line that's supposed to be flexible; they have an armor kit but they don't have chrome in it. But maybe a mix of the silver and a bit of black could work? I also just learned about Swellegant paints, which are actually very fine particles of metal suspended in a clear medium for painting; they are also flexible.
@michaeldiaz65702 жыл бұрын
Wonder if you cut the helmet in half ear to ear and then vacuum formed each side and glued them back together and then used chrome paint or markers to paint it should reduce the paint cracking.

y'know, the way Peacemaker's helmet is shaped, it looks like you can make a cast of either side of the helmet, press it into shape with sheet metal, and clip off any scraps (in Peacemaker, you can even see a manual press in the background and casts of the helmets lying around behind the finished models on the shelves)

The thing that comes to mind is, 3D printing. Which, admittedly, isn't foam. But, it is, 1, solid and so should take a hard-coat without cracking, and 2, is lightweight, if likely heavier than the foam in any sufficient thickness.

3D printing is the right way to go with a high chrome effect like this. Even if you have to cast it and pull a fiberglass version from it.
