The Netherlands has evolved into a nation of rules and regulations. It favoured rules and regulations over relationships up to a point whereby the rules are making it difficult to get anything done anymore. Housing, farming, education, integration services etc. have all made their statements that their specific sector is 'in crisis'. Nederland crisisland, as I have started to call it. But nobody can agree on which rules and regulations so we have a mixture of many political parties safely debating the differing rules and regulations within the safe confines of the law - which are even more rules and regulations. Wodan represents, among many things, the very antithesis towards this mindset. He breaks a lot of rules and doesn't care about regulations. Few examples include is practice of Seidr magic - which is considered taboo among the male population. He crosses boundaries constantly just so that he may understand what wisdom is found on the other side. So many people, myself included, have become very disinterested in the ever-complicating web of rules and regulations. This idea of the "sovereign citizen" is another echo of this change. Perhaps Odin, with his incredible wisdom, may give us the understanding that yes - sometimes rules are meant to be broken. Just to show how silly they really are.
