Dope! For the inner core, a better option would be a water valve key. It's metal, but since it's inside the prop, it's not against con rules, and you can bend them. I've done this a few times now, Pretty easy to bend too, and only about 6mm thick. I use that nested in 6mm foam, sandwiched between 2 pieces of 4mm for a 14mm blade, which is still thin enough to look good. You can also do what you did in the video to use only 2 layers of foam, but whatever..semantics..lol

3/8” rigid aluminum tubing and a hand bender would solve your graphite shaft problem. If you have problems bending with the tubing bender, Adam Savage has a video on building a suit of aluminum armor that shows you an ingenious way to anneal aluminum for easier bending. Just a thought. Love your videos!

I love that you know how traditional katanas are constructed, even down to how the silk ribbons are wrapped around the grip and even knowing their proper names. What a coincidence! I'm literally waiting for the silver coat to dry on a replica of Tanjiro's final arc/antique katana right now! Other than the blade being foam instead of wood, this is *exactly* how I build my swords. Also, the style of wrap on tanjiro's hilt is called katate-maki, as opposed to the one you see more often, where the diamonds go all along the grip, which is called hineri-maki.

The "sori" (depth of the curve of the katana spine) varies from blade to blade during the traditional forging and heat treating anyway, so making the blade less or more curved is still acceptable from that perspective. Good work as always!
