Just bought a z650rs a few days ago as my first big bike from a 110cc scooter. The transition from the small bike to this one is so far very smooth. I am very happy and satisfied at the moment. Considerations for my choice: price, weight, ease of use in congested almost stand still traffic where you compete with small scooters in filtering through, ease of parking in cramped parking spaces, and lastly - look that won’t easily age with time. Since my bikes main purpose is as a daily rider on a slow heavily trafficked commute and won’t be likely used often with speed greater than 60km/h, the exciting but more pricey trident, cbr650 and mt-07/xsr700 would easily be an overkill. The z650’s design is just not fit for my age and imho can age fast. The suzuki offerings (sv650) in my area are still outdated (still with non-LED lamps and poor visibility LCD displays) and pricey. A lot of cheaper Chinese offerings are also available in my locality (Benilli, CFMoto) but not in my consideration since they still have to prove their reliability. RE models are not available in my locality. The z650rs somehow hit the spot for these requirements. The small fuel tank doesn’t make it top heavy even when full and combined with it’s tuning for low and midrange torque makes it very light and agile for filtering in stand still cramped traffic.

The honda is an inline-4 with a 180-degree crank, Triumph an inline-3 and the Kawi a parallel twin with a 180-degree crank. These are the founding factors in making the characteristics of the bike and in turn defines the nature of the machine. The Triumph is a contemporary Moto-2 representing bike. The honda is of the previous-gen when version moto-2 used honda's engine, whereas the Kawi is predominantly retro only in looks. So it really just depends on which era of bikes you'd like to get into and not necessarily about the price when it comes to bikes in my humble opinion. For someone like me who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, the Honda inline-4 650 is the dream. So I think motorcycles are more about passion rather than cost and practicality. I would gladly pay more for that extra cylinder. P.S The Ducati Panigale V-twin also falls in this category of retro bikes.

Have a Trident 660 and its a terrific bike. As a mature experienced rider I found the suspension a little harsh and was my only criticism of an otherwise great package. Spot on. I will say I've gotten used to the more rigid suspension. It's definitely a shock to go over some of the bigger potholes from time to time we have up here in MN. You just have to accept it's tuned for better cornering and not cruising around in luxury (despite most things on the bike being far, and I mean FAR, higher end than most of the competition). But a suspension change/upgrade isn't the worst idea in the world. I have thought about changing out the seat, though. haha

They're a lot cheaper and built to a price point. They're different bikes altogether. Easy to maintain on your own, just try to change an air filter in any one of these. And the service reach is incredible. I live in a rural area in Himachal and there is an authorised RE service centre right in town. And general mechanics can easily do maintenance jobs too. RE Twins are more like workhorse bikes. You ride them anywhere and don't have to worry about repairs. Plus they're intentionally underpowered to make them easily accessible to beginner riders and A2 license holders in UK. Interceptor has won retro bike of the year award in UK in 2020. In UK! The home of Triumph motorcycles. That tells you a lot about how impressed the brits are with Indian built RE Twins. Of course, there are more powerful, faster and lighter 650cc bikes out there. And people will buy a bike according to there preferences. But if you want to buy a cheap, classic, low maintenance, great sounding, good looking bike, then either of the RE 650s is going to be a good choice.
@random_cocaine46672 жыл бұрын
you should compare them to 400cc bikes since they are RETRO & can get away with having extra cc(s) because of their weight Triumph does this too with bonnovilles eve though they are 1000+ cc their weight to performance is close to 650 to 800 cc Japanese bikes; so to sum it up you should compare RE 650 twins to KTM Duke 390 BMW310 etc

Ok, so you guys are forgetting why we want to buy these bikes in the first place. It needs to perform as well as look the part. Trident 660 just looks "smol" when you sit on it. Add the Ninja 650 and CB"R" 650R to the mix and all other pale in comparison. We want a big bike, one that would command respect among 2 wheelers and one that is also capable of long hauls, quick pickup and a lot of fun. I thought the Z650 and CB 650R are nice naked motorcycles, but I sure was not able to ignore the Ninja 650 that stole my heart on first sight.

@@GoodBalak yes I tried the ninja 650 and the CBR 650R. These bikes are a different segment, full fairing sport bikes. So they are definitely bigger, no doubt. But you can't compare them with these naked bikes. Ninja 650 is a good bike, only thing I didn't like the sound, in fact it makes almost no sound 😂. CBR is too expensive. But yeah these bikes are bigger because of the full fairing, but they are more uncomfortable to ride for long periods of time. Anyways my advice if you are looking for a naked, overall best for the price is the trident and best overall is the CB 650R but it's too expensive to make sense.

Drove both the cb650r and the Trident 660, as a beginner. Just got my license. First on the Trident. Loved it, it has character, that's the word. Character. Didn't feel refined though. Then on the Honda. Instantly, the Honda felt mature. Felt less like a toy, heavier, more planted. Somehow, I found myself cruising at higher speed on the Honda - for some reason. Maybe it felt more stable? I don't know. 2 days later, thinking on which bike I want to buy.. They're both kind of small for me, that's the issue. But I look better on the Trident somehow. I think that Honda tries to look like a big bike and isn't quite a big bike. The Trident knows it's a small bike, looks like one, and owns it. hhh... mixed feelings all around: because of that brilliant sound, unfortunately, I just feel like I'll be going faster on the Honda, because it simply "asks" you to. But it doesn't have the Trident's character. Which isn't as refined as the Honda. But maybe that's what makes it special. You decide. I couldn't as of now.

So,where are yamaha xsr700 and Suzuki sv650? This comparison is not fair. Honda is too expensive and Kawasaki 650s are not good enough.

An upswept exhaust on the Kawasaki would interfere with fitting a deep pannier. These bikes are not copies of any retro models (otherwise they would have twin shocks and wire spoke wheels like the Gold Star) so why are you referring back to old model?

I'm sorry. This is not a good video on how to clean it. You have some great safety tips but you are making a mass with over spraying the rear tire with you chain lube. You can use some cardboard as a barrier to separate the wheel and chain. And I would not use any water while doing chain maintenance. Just my 5c.

Short answer - No. The 660 was quite underwhelming, as compared to say the Honda at the top or KZ at the bottom end of things.

@@prathaps848 maybe, also no mention of their clutch feels, I've heard trident has a stiff clutch.

I hear it’s buttery smooth, but then I hear the fueling/throttle is strange.... then I hear it’s perfect..... you gotta go ride each to know.

@@aroy8731 yes it bit stiff for city use, once you used to it you will be fine
