ODYSEE IS NOT OWNED BY GOOGLE Some of you may have done some searches on the web and realized that Google bought a company called "Odysee" seven years ago, along with the Odysee.com name that THAT company also owned. That company was quickly dismantled and hasn't existed since 2015. The domain odysee.com then became available again and a couple of years ago, the LBRY company bought the domain and created Odysee.com. Google has absolutely nothing to do with LBRY or the Odysee site.

Thanks, I was a long time without checking it, it has improved a lot since the last 3 years, by now it is almost equal in the GUI part, I will start promoting it to the KZbinrs I follow, now I only need a replacement for the music part and I will abandon KZbin, the critical mass is about there and most of the KZbinrs I follow get demonitized by no reason at all. I also plan to upload some coding videos in the future and I will go only LBRY or first there and then KZbin. Let's add that the odyssey premium is way cheaper.

I've been on Odysee and uploaded stuff for a while now and it's best to say I love Odysee alot and the new changes and updates it's making. Consistently uploading and promoting your channel is the best way to help the site going and sustain the website.

I stopped posting on yt when they took down one of my videos that was part of a whole webseries because people kept stealing it and reuploading it which caused me to have to submit take down notices. So they just decided to remove the video altogether intead of putting tech in place to verify video ownership.

I would have started a YT channel by now but around last November, YT brought in a 2FA policy that (as I understand it, and I am happy to be proved wrong) means you can only authenticate your account using a specific app on an iPhone or Google Android phone. I don't own any Apple devices and all of my Android devices are totally de-Googled - at which point I am told that the 2FA would not work on a de-Googled phone. And I am not willing to carry around a Google surveillance device with me just for the privilege of uploading videos to YT.

All of my mobile devices are de-Googled Android and most of the time I watch YT content via RSS, newsboat and mpv - also a particular app on F-Droid that if I mention its name, my comment gets deleted. Only if I am commenting I log in with one of my pseudonyms on a browser. I'm here now only because I have a completely advertising-free experience with Pi-Hole at home and various ad blockers - I have even unsubscribed from some creators shilling products midway through their videos unless they have clear timestamps where I can skip "the salesman sh*t". If YT gets to a point where I can't block advertising, I will just switch it off, pure and simple. I decide what goes in my eyes and ears, not some evil corporation.

Thank you for this video. KZbin just randomly deleted one of my channels where I was talking about the process of working on building a video game as "misleading commercial content" without telling me WHICH video made them decide that and why. I wasn't selling anything, there were no ads or products being shown, and I don't see how it could be misleading to talk about my process of doing work, but it was just nuked due to some arbitrary algorithm glitch. I appealed, and because of the /dev/null Google support, I just got a "no" with no information and no recourse. You can't trust other people's platforms. Always have a backup plan and hedge your bets.

If memory serves me, I recall Odysee not having RSS feeds for channels in the past. It was something that deterred me when I looked into it before. This video provoked me into checking again and I was happy to see that RSS is now available (or I was just very unobservant the last time I'd checked). Either way I've added your channel, and several others, to my feed reader as a result.

I find it great that you put a balanced perspective on things, not just "russia bad, they should be deleted!" I completely agree, when big tech platforms start acting as arbiters of the truth it gets dangerous. It's best to keep your content distributed, and (if possible) have your own website. People used to do that and then they replaced it with instagram, which can also ban you and delete all of your content at any given time.

Besides the user count and the number of videos, I would say that Odysee is better than KZbin in all ways except video subtitles which LBRY/Odysee still does not have despite it being a feature on KZbin since at least 2007-2008 only 1-3 years after the launch of KZbin in 2005/2006...

I think Rumble stands a much better chance of really competing with KZbin. It's getting really good. Also, for what it's worth, Patreon isn't the way to go if you're really concerned with free expression. They have removed people from their platform for their beliefs, prompting the creation of Locals. Locals is really good.

Odysee has a better UI than Rumble. But it would be good if both could be as successful as each other. Although everyone competes we need there to be many viable alternatives to the establishment, so that they have a hard time zapping all of them.

About 18 months I DESTROYED my KZbin channel. I did TWO things - First I linked my YT account to Odysee and my other social media AND 2nd made a video about "Is the World run by Psychopaths". BIG MISTAKE. I have a reputation as an activist online but until that point my YT channel wasn't linked to me personally. Since then I have had some kind of shadow ban filter that started winding my channel back. Prior to this point I had organic growth, each and every month I had more subs/views/watch time than the month before for 3 1/2 years solid. Continually growing NEVER getting less than the month before. Once I made my fatal error my channel has had less subs/views/watch-time each and every month. Going from 200 subs down to 20 (18 months later) dropping by roughly 20 subs each month. 40k plus views a month down to 3k. Little by little but consistently wound back. My subs dont get told my videos are up, some have even been unsubbed, I no longer get recommended etc. YT sucks. It is a tool of the system.

I just started an AI research project channel, purely educational. I've spent just a smuch time disputing and appealing false claims of copyright as I have recording the 12 hours of content I've uploaded. Only 2/3 is live because I'm just constantly dealing with the same thing. I own a license, signed and dated. I'd gladly upload it so they stop bothering me. I told them this sent pinks, won several disputes but suddenly lost one and just filed the appeals. It's absolutely ridiculous that free research project development log with a signed copyright license is too complicated for KZbin to handle competently. I'm ready to ditch KZbin entirely and just post to my webserver at lower quality since it's just talking head vids, code, screenshots and slides. KrossDline may be leaving KZbin because of bs claims of copyright which ironically are legit violating my actual copyrights with a signed license contract. Yt will bow to dictators and treat scalper companies better than actual content creators who are human beings. It's absurd how we've commoditized humans. I'm gonna check out odysee too.

So those are the two I still use, the other three are gone - although, to be fair, I've never owned an Apple device anyway. Odysee Android app does not work well with Android TV OS (Chromecast G-TV device) remote control. Adding an "air mouse" helps. Video is not laggy but app is very laggy.

I had the same poor experience using Odysee on Chromecast with Google TV. Ironically, the $49 10 inch Meta/Facebook Portal (Android) device works well with Odysee using Portal's built-in browser. Maybe Odysee should just make a PWA (progressive web app) like Hulu did as its Odysee Android app.

It was even unlisted - it was quite shitty and just to share it with my friends. 40 views at all after 5 years. This year it got notice from Google it is flagged as minor unsafe because it promotes violence and all the stuff about removing my channel :/

Problems with odysee is that once you go full screen on a video, they trap you there. The only way to get out is to close the whole program and then go back again. It's just too much of a pain in the butt.

Derrick, strangly what people might label as conspiracy theory has came true. It's why I am not afraid to go down the rabbit hole a little bit. But I do so being guarded like anything else. Because sometimes that stuff just gets to wild for my likeness. But I do find myself say na this is crazy only to find a year later it's just like common knowledge. I mean things that are beyond the pale just seem ok with some people. I could give examples but then that's just going to divide people and that's definitely not my point here. KZbin is wonderful and we are very satisfied with it, just as the owner of this channel is satisfied with it and benefits from it. In the very distant future, there may be a replacement for it... Odissi is also good, but it has a long way to go.

The only two issues I have with Odysee is, 1.Even if I create two channels I can't seperate the subscriptions, video history & liked content between them. 2.I believe you can't watch content in 1080p 60fps? But def still the best YT alt.

1. You would have to create 2 Odysee accounts with 2 Email Adresses, just like on KZbin. Would be weird if you could just make an unlimited number of channels to subscribe to someone with one Email address. 2. Yeah thats not possible yet

1.Actually yes you can create multiple KZbin channels under one G-Account, I currently have two. This channel for everything minus news and politics and the other one for just news and politics. I don't like gaming, music and creative content mixed in my feed with political and news content. I can choose which one to log into on all my devices and even switch between them without signing out of Google. Odseey should implement this.

Just gave Odysee iOS a try. It didn’t seem to have an option to change the speed of videos. I probably only watch videos at normal speed 5%-10% of the time. Edit: Never mind. Found the option. :-)

So do you slow videos down to understand and absorb the content better or speed them up because you're impatient and have a short attention span (typical of the millennial generation)? If it's the latter then I think that's very rude and disingenuous, quite frankly. If a creator like DT takes the time and effort to make all of us good and free content, the least you can do is give it the time to watch it properly - and comment appropriately afterwards.

@@terrydaktyllus1320 A lot of the videos I watch are full live streams that can sometimes be over 4 hours long and I unfortunately just don’t have time in my life to watch videos at their intended speed, so I’m just kind of used to speeding up video. Watching videos all the way through at X1 feels kind of strange now. However if there’s something that catches my interest or that I didn’t catch, I go back and slow it down though.

@daniel halachev It depends on the video. I still often watch/listen to music and ASMR at X1. The speed I watch videos depends on its length, pacing and I guess how interested I am. Really sorry if that feels condescending to creators at all, but I feel it should be the viewer’s choice for how they watch videos.

moving mine to odysee and rumble, my wrestling entertainment videos get taken down for violence or sexual, and for the ones who are not deleted the are demonitized by false flags, many false positive and my top videos are demonitized. Appeal rejected fast too, seemed automated...country restrictions on many videos. as far as age restricted, it sucks for creators too. My funny wrestling entertainment videos get age restricted, but kids can watch politics or war footage that is not age restrcted. seems weird. mostly, I want my videos on another platform for freedom and safety, in case my channel is deleted without reason.

Last time I tried to use Odysee, I got constant phone push notifications for every single video uploaded in my follow feed. I tried double checking that I hadn't done the Odysee version of clicking the bell, and I had only rung one or two bells for channels I was closely following. Unless they've finally set their notifications system up better, I can't really use Odysee because it singlehandedly makes my phone's notification system near useless with how many Odysee notifications I have to scroll past to get to the ones that matter.

The problem with Odysee for me is that I like to watch/listen while walking and I can’t set up/play an auto playlist on the iOS version of the app. That’s a deal breaker. If that feature comes to the app, then I would certainly switch rather than YT.

We’ll actually it is about me and my convenience…that’s what makes things work for people and why they choose what they choose, otherwise YT wouldn’t be so popular…it’s because it just works and is convenient. If you’re denying that then that’s just blindness on your part. Rather l, if the creators of the app are reading the comments and want the app used more then features like this would be useful and increase use of the platform. Sheesh, I suppose haters just got to hate, though, right!?

Odysee looks cool, but if you post something stupid on it, upload some video that you later come to regret, it can never be truly purged even if you delete it. The blockchain tech it's using ensures that even deleted videos are still stored somewhere.
