I was ill for the previous four days, which was bloody horrible, so I barely made it down to shoot that on the last day of the season. I wasn't at my best but that's why friends who want to share their secret swims are great. Thanks Ollie.

Great film but for us in Canterbury NZ where I fish a 2 lb'er is common; 5 lb is a specimen and the search is for a double-figure perch. Five winters ago we found a dead fish of just over 9 lb. It had been attacked by rats where it lay in the reeds; the mouth would have been the size of a 2-gallon bucket, the length was about 2 1/2 ft and depth on the hump over a foot. To date our best is 5 1/2 lb caught on worm. The best baits are fresh rudd or smelt of about 4 in and we have had over 100 lb of perch in a day in spring. Come to Christchurch NZ to sample specimen hunting for really big perch.
