What GreenTitan said... its actually factually proven that Metal Heads are among the most chill and kind group of music fans ever. You'll never go to a big Metal fest and be treated poorly, Metal fans are so kind and polite and will go out of their way to help you if in need. You see we get our pent up aggression and fuming rage out while listening to Metal instead of taking it out on others like so many other people do. Metal is soothing to the soul even while being "aggressive/violent music", it's simply a very cathartic genera of music, more so than any other genera. \m/

@@anjisarv Not this specific sub-genre of metal, but my all-time faves are Opeth. They are Swedish Progressive Black Metal, but their latest releases are Prog Rock. Also recommend Tool, for a more "palatable" prog metal style, and anything Maynard James Keenan is involved with. My third personal recommendation is Carcass, a British band who vary from Grindcore to more "standard" metal (with their latest releases). For this (X's) style, look up a band called "Death". A legend by the named of Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) was the frontman of that band and is revered. More complex stuff, look to Technical Death Metal and a band named Necrophagist. Be wary though, if you are newly venturing down the 'metal' road, some of these bands might be too much for you until you are used to it. If you can play an instrument, i believe you will find it easier to get in to. Most metalheads can play at least one instrument. I think it's why we gravitate to the genre, as it's IMO one of the last bastions of actual musical and technical talent. It is the only genre that regularly uses the "old" techniques started by Mozart, Beethoven, and the "Classics".

Not sure if your are referring to the voice in the music or if I missed him talking at some point, but this was a guitar cover, implying he only covered the guitar portion of the music and used the originals for the rest. At least when I did piano covers, that's how I labeled them for the other instruments I couldn't play on the track.

My jaw is on the floor! I've seen most hermits irl or on face cam now sharing other passions and hobbies and had that initial shock of "no way they are the same person". But eventually, you get to the "of course, that's exactly who they are. Who else would they be." But X is still this incredible enigma. I'm just getting a little more info and I'm holding onto the "what else can they do?!" feeling for a while longer. A lot of the biggest guitarists never had any formal training. Paul McCartney and John Lennon among them. Slash doesn't know music theory. On the other hand, John Petrucci Steve Vai and Joe satriani are all about it. Regardless of what route you decide to take, find what's engaging for YOU and you'll be fine. Happy shredding my friend!

We had each of our kids take about 12 private lessons through Guitar Center. It was enough to teach them the basics with some guidance on basic technique and tab reading, which made for less frustration on their part. Now they are teaching themselves just fine!
