you shouldn't have said the N-word in your video. you should have just said the characters used derogative language towards Crooks. I understand that you are trying to educate however if you can avoid using racial slurs you should take the opportunity. The N-word is still very much powerful as we still live in a very racist society. And I can advocate because I am a young black woman .

Chantelle, thank you for your comment. Believe me, I thought long and hard about it, and my final decision was to quote the language I was analysing, as I would do with any other word, especially because the analysis confronts the racism in that word. However, I totally take your point about the world we are living in, which has changed even since this video was made in 2017. I'll look at editing it. :)

chantelle sibanda thing is though in using the word it highlights how racist it actually is. If you say it here it shows and teaches how it actually is racist

@@RachelVevers really the only way saying the n word is helpful if youre actively highlighting racism im specific. but you werent talking about racism in specific and you werent talking about crooks in specific at the time.

@@Player-fp5xh It is a direct quote of the words that the character of Curley's wife uses to describe Crooks, Lennie and Candy, and I preface it by saying that the terms she uses for all three men are derogatory. I thought it was fairly obvious that she is racist towards Crooks, ableist towards Lennie and ageist/dehumanising towards Candy - you could say that she hits each man in turn in his protected characteristics, and her cruelty is part of the reason for her isolation, (I try not to ramble on for too long!) but yes, I take your point that I could have made that clearer, and that particular word should have been more strongly red-flagged.
