LYRICS
-----------
you said that women are better suited in the home
you would be much happier at home with a husband
go home to a hunk
is he for real ‘cause my brain is hurting
women are pretending that they like working
you know who else pretends that work is fun
every single person since the world’s begun
and dude don’t you know what the truth is
having babies and getting paid aint mutually exclusive, no
women earn less because they choose to
that makes as much sense as a llama in a tutu
did you travel here in a time machine
i hate to tell you what’s gonna happen in 1919
i’m running for president, i’m running for president,
i learned how to handle a gun
and i never thought about murdering someone
murdering someone
well with an argument like that i’m sold
finally a candidate that we can all like
all the others tried to suffocate me last night in my bedroom
Hillary Clinton said “MEET YOUR DOOM”
I learned how to handle a fishing pole
GREAT!
so we could catch catfish, catch catfish
we could catch catfish, catch catfish
the USDA has spent 20 million dollars
to set up the catfish office
without inspecting a single catfish
i’m not making that up oh-ohhhhhh
what if a catfish ain’t really a catfish
it’s just a girl pretending to be a catfish
with a face like that who wouldn’t tap this
you’ll be horrified to find out it’s daniel radcliffe
i wouldn’t be horrified by that, not a single smidgen
on the subject of Iraq,
yup
knowing what we know now
yup
would you have authorized the invasion
yup, I would have
nobody thought Hussein was a great guy
but i thought it was a mistake even at the time
Tom Brady, he’s handsome
but i was asking about Medicaid expansion
Tom Brady, he’s wealthy
your obsession with him is getting a little unhealthy
I think the punishment is too harsh
are we still talking about Brady?
Tom Brady
This is getting too crazy
Tom Brady
I don’t think this interview is worth it
To me those balls are perfect
Tom Brady
the Patriot Act allows the police to write their own warrants
there is no probable cause they don’t have to be signed by a judge
but the police don’t have any flaws
if i’m gonna get arrested might as well break some laws
hey don’t murder anyone in my squad
welp, i guess he’s no Huckabee, and i won’t be voting for him
this catfish here
this catfish here
so we could catch catfish
this catfish here
so we could catch Tom Brady
yup he’s handsome
shouldn’t you be a jets fan
stay home with a husband
i learned how to handle a gun
and i never thought about murdering someone
never even thought about it
I never thought about murdering someone
murdering someone

@1ard
@1ard 8 жыл бұрын
+VISCERAL CLUTCH you mean the wage gap that has been disproven by plenty of economist as a gross generalization that fails to take into account the different job choices and work ethics taken by both men and women? that wage gap that magically melts away when you start factoring in said variables ....the wage gap that is fueled by a statistic on general Earnings... not wage... and no one sees any issue with the fact that they make a statement on wages by looking at what people earn? yeah one worker works every day for 4 weeks straight and another worker works every other day for 4 weeks straight.... obviously there will be a gap in what they earn but they are paid the same...THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN WHAT THESE TO INDIVIDUALS ARE BEING PAID..(and yes statistically speaking women take off more often and longer then men do... ) if women want to continue taking worthless degrees in women studies instead of engineering or science then yes women will EARN less then men on average. IT IS ILLEGAL TO PAY MEN AND WOMEN DIFFERENTLY BASES ON GENDER .... IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE THEN SUE THE COMPANY.... i really wish the wage gap myth would just die off....

***** My point was that women could vote in 1920 not 1919, and also the people are arguing about the wage gap on the news, NOT women's rights? So I am confused as to how this lyric makes any sense.

That first clip made me cringe... Sean Hannity's show isn't exactly... Well, how to put it? He manages to get people on that can make the most reasonable of stances like "in general women tend to like provider roles less", "women tend to go into different fields that earn less in general" and "actually the wage gap is in aggragate and it's not actually discrimination" and turn that into "women choose to earn less". How someone can have such a complete lack of nuance is beyond me. I could think of at least five better ways to phrase that more accurately without even bothering to truly think, but this dipshit manages to pick the worst thing to say. Anyway, after that rambling... Jon's voice is fucking amazing. Seriously.
@rebellucy5098
@rebellucy5098 9 жыл бұрын
chrizzel28 He worded it in a douchy way but on a base level, saying "they choose to earn less" is entirely true. Choose to work less hours. Choose to go into lower income fields. etc. etc. etc.
@chrizzel28
@chrizzel28 9 жыл бұрын
Mischievous Roze Exactly. I'm just stupified by the way he can talk about such a subject without even thinking for a second about the amount of nuance required for people to even listen properly for half a minute.

chrizzel28 Some people are just abrasive and don't care what people think. They're not generally useful in gathering followers but they are the more prevalent group in every belief.
@chrizzel28
@chrizzel28 9 жыл бұрын
LanteanKnight Ah, in hindsight you're right. Been a while since I saw that clip in its whole. In that case... That's rather dishonest of them. It was funny, don't get me wrong, but this is also how lies are perpetuated. I understand disagreement, that's a natural thing, but misrepresenting someone's argument by leaving out the actual nuance is something I do not take kindly, personally speaking. That's basically quote mining.
@Sodokashi
@Sodokashi 9 жыл бұрын
chrizzel28 I would think they mostly showed the abrasive comments because they're funnier than the more nuanced view. It's much easier to make fun of someone saying "Women choose to earn less" than it is for someone that states it in a reasonable way. I think a lot of people here are looking for some kind of political nuance in a video that is primarily comedic in purpose and i think that is a little unreasonable. Politics is a touchy subject, but i think people came here to have a laugh and not to hear an accurate lecture about the misinformation regarding the wage gap. Not trying to argue with anyone here, just giving you my two cents.

*But women do choose to earn less.* If an employer could employ someone doing the exact same job for less, he'd only hire women. This aint the case. Women choose lower paying jobs.
@painfulelegy812
@painfulelegy812 9 жыл бұрын
Chetz It's less women choose lower paying jobs, but rather around the time of having first kid, the female population trends towards jobs with more securities, more lax hours, more flexible schedule arrangements and other properties that allow for a better Work/Life balance accommodating for children. In exchange for this, there are a couple implicit gender stereotypes regarding work ethic of women. Specifically that women will be more likely to put their children before their work should they have them, which makes them unfavorable for acceleration in jobs (as they will 'likely put their children before the company'). On this end, the inverse is also implied (that men are willing to put the job before their health and safety), which gets them more favorable pay and advancement opportunities. What people need to realize is that it isn't all choice, but it isn't as if women are being paid less to the dollar. It's the fact that we imply that men putting family first is a negative attribute that shouldn't be encouraged. Give Paternity Leave, create societal overtones that encourage the 'father first, worker second' mentality, and those gaps would shrink greatly.
@Loppop23

@painfulelegy812
@painfulelegy812 9 жыл бұрын
***** Actually, that's not a direct correlation. In reality, the lines of correlation is - 'The more a job pays, the more the work is believed to require savvy and commitment'. Women are believed to be less committed to work than men, because 'data' shows they're more likely to take time off from work to support their families and have children, meaning they're likely to be more loyal to family than to the workplace, which is 'bad' for the workplace (when in reality, this gender difference exists because paid paternity leave is not only far less common, but is also socially discouraged, which perpetuates the ideas by fueling said issue). In this same way minority groups tend to be cast as being 'less savvy' because they lack connections and many traits tied to being 'savvy' by the upper crust, when in reality, most of that comes from the fact that a larger percentage of the minority population simply live in conditions that do not allow for the building of those traits. This is the concept of systemic Discrimination. Discrimination from the past sets up structures and systems (in the case of women, a focus on them being more greatly allowed to break for children, in the case of minorities, being caught in low income communities, that are extremely difficult to escape) that create data points that cause people to draw indirect causative conclusions, that become stereotypes. This type of discrimination is not malicious, as it is not constructed with the intent of diminishing the value of the group it diminishes, but rather is simply the result of individuals not being taught to take data and examine it more critically. It's basically a 'rich person' and socioeconomic problem more than it is a pure human rights issue.

It's a little odd to see a channel like this push a narrative. (In reference to the first clip) You should have poked fun at both sides because both the man and the woman were equally douchy but the woman didn't have any studies to back up her douchyness like the man did. Its not good for you to be choosing a side like that especially since in the past you have made fun of political parties equally.

***** The problem with studies looking for things like happiness and fulfillment is that it's impossible to get a significant response and a large enough testing population, given the costs that would take and the incredible variance present between areas, classes, regions, and even genetic predispositions. Not to mention that it's a non-quantifiable measurement anyway, and is extremely subjective. Even if you focus the question down to "Are you satisfied in your professional life?", there are still countless potential modifiers and causes, to the point that outright saying "This is why they're unhappy and this is what will make them more happy" is an incredibly moronic thing to say, and no one with even a smidgen of a background involving science, statistics, or sociology would ever say anything like that. Sure, you can bring up specific changes, but it's impossible to prove any singular cause and unethical to go out of your way and claim that a certain singular perspective is completely correct.

Actually it _is_ true that women make less because they choose to. It's not as simple as that, but the studies proving the wage gap are way to vague and not specific enough. Literally they compare *only* the TOTAL yearly income of EVERYONE. Not job to job or hour to hour. The people who flaunt the studies just don't mention that more men are engineers and work overtime more and that women tend to go into social working jobs and take time off on average (all of this is statistical). Employers are literally not allowed to pay women less.

Piscaso Just because someone's "not allowed" to do something doesn't mean they won't! I agree that wage gaps studies are often oversimplified, and that women are often in lower-paying fields... but *why* are they in those fields in the first place? Often it's because those areas are male-dominated and not particularly friendly to women. So while employers technically aren't paying women (17%) less -- though most can agree that there is a 2-5% gap at least, the reason that women get paid less is complicated.
@piscaso
@piscaso 9 жыл бұрын
Learning FTW It really isn't that simple. They can get whatever job they want if they have the education, but they just go into lower paying jobs statistically. We could argue all day about whether or not it's hormonal, chemical, or simply a societal norm, but for one reason or another they don't. There *are* female engineers and there *are* male elementary school teachers. But less because of the stigmatism. I don't care if there are more males than females, nobody is telling you that you cannot be an engineer. Nobody is obstructing you from majoring in a male dominated class in college. Nobody goes and changes what you chose. Just fucking do it and stop complaining.
@piscaso
@piscaso 9 жыл бұрын
***** Actually jobs tend to hire women over mean and especially blacks over whites as well as most other ethnicities. The case is even worse with colleges. Such as when an indian boy pretended to be black after getting rejected from a college. With the exact same qualifications he was accepted because he was black: nypost.com/2015/04/12/mindy-kalings-brother-explains-why-he-pretended-to-be-black/ My points still stand and haven't been disproven. More men are engineers and more women are elementary school teachers. The studies only look at total yearly income not based on job, hours worked, overtime, etc. They don't even look at that. The studies are too broad to be any sort of evidence for women being payed less for the same work, even though employers aren't allowed to pay a man more than a woman (or a woman less than a man if you will).
@AndyBar97
@AndyBar97 9 жыл бұрын
"Women earn less because they choose to", actually does make sense. The so called "wage gap" is just the result of young women leaving their jobs early to go raise newborns. So at the end of the year, they made a grand total less than their male coworkers.
@river750777
@river750777 9 жыл бұрын
AndyBar97 Yeah it is pretty much exactly why. The original study that coined the "77 cents per dollar" thing didn't adjust for anything at all. Women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, but not in the same jobs, and not with the same qualifications. When the numbers are adjusted properly the gap completely vanishes in the vast majority of fields. The biggest actual wage gap is like 7%, and even then most fields have none at all.

That one guy from the internet yeah how they got those statistic was every working women in america and averaged there pay and did the same with men... So basically they didn't check each job, most women do choose less stressful jobs or one that honestly just pay less. For instance, I've seen at least 3 times as many waitresses as to waiters

'Women earn less, because they choose to' 'That makes as much sense as a llama in a tutu.' Actually, it does make sense. It's pretty much the main factor behind the wage gap's existence. Women choose university degrees that result in much lower paying jobs, as well as choosing less dangerous jobs, flexible hours, less overtime, less negotiation for higher salaries etc etc I'm afraid those ARE women's choices, sorry.
@Sodokashi
@Sodokashi 9 жыл бұрын
SikforSenses It is really sloppily stated though, you gotta give em that. TrackSpider I mean, yeah, sure they did. Keep in mind that this is not a dissertation regarding the inaccuracies of the wage gap, it's a funny song. They will cut it in a way that makes it sound as outlandish as possible, because it is funnier that way. I seriously doubt they're making their comedy video funnier because of a political slant. I get where you're coming from, but i think you're being a little bit too critical on a point that isn't really applicable to the kind of video they're going for. :) MorriganMKII Yeah, it is a bit weird. I think it's just one of those things people have been brought up to believe and haven't really taken the time to look up the facts about it.
