Nice to see you out riding again. Always happy to see what you are up to on your channel. Looking forward to seeing you at your work bench again too. I remember when you built that.

I have a 2021 SQ3, love it. I ride mainly chunky XC trails, the factory Assegais were way overkill for me, I now have a set of 2.35 Ikons front and rear and it really made the climbs alot better and makes the bike roll so much faster, since the Ikons are also alot lighter it really brought the flickability of the handling alive.

I have the same hardtail Large size. Great bike for the money. The tires are definitely an overkill for it. Gave it to my nephew to ride for now.

yes, will probably be looking for some tamer tires for it.

8:00 What trail is this and the skinny at 8:40? I must say that the orange looks even better in person! Great riding with you the other day 🤘

That was roller coaster and the skinny is on the upper side of the same trail, fun trail!

Good to see you back out there Toogy, Marin can’t be beat for price to performance unless you go direct to consumer. The Alpine Trail is a sick full squish bike but definitely overkill unless you’re riding park or shuttleable trails often.

There’s some east weight savings to be had if you swap out those tires! Then save the maxxis tires for trips

yeah definitely want to look into getting some less aggressive better rolling tires soon

Assegai tires are awesome aggressive but so heavy and slow rolling, and not really appropriate for most Ontario riding unless you’re doing downhill. Throw on a pair of Rekons or Forekasters and that would make the bike feel way more responsive. Not sure if it comes with an xt shifter or not, but throw on one for awesome performance.
@ToogyHowser

yeah I was looking at the Rekon tires, would probably be way better for gravel/adventure riding too!

@@ToogyHowser I run them on my salsa blackthorn which is a 160/140 travel big bike, 2.6 front and 2.4 rear. They can push a bit in corners if you ride really hard but climb very well compared to stock assegai/dissector I had. But ya way nicer and faster rolling on packed trails and gravel.

Low stack height, hmm. Go Mullet with it if you're getting a different fork

Ive had a few Marin bikes and they are amazing. But to keep the price down they use really cheap cranks and rims. Changing out the crsnks and chainring should make your bike a lot lighter.

My new bike is way heavier than my HT. 10lbs or so. I notice inmediately as a semi weekend warrior.

Raise the stack with the new fork with 40 bars and shorten stem I did the with the middlechild
@ToogyHowser
@ToogyHowser Жыл бұрын
Just curious why you'd shorten the stem if you raised the front end with a longer fork? Wouldn't a longer fork theoretically decrease the reach already?
@wallyedmonds8199
@wallyedmonds8199 Жыл бұрын
Not longer travel fork , longer stack higher stack more shims under stem cut steer tub longer . And sorter stem for steering action and positioning on the bike Going uphill a little more work if you go to far back lol

Just bought my San Quentin 3 and I keep getting clicking noises in certain gears?
@ToogyHowser
@ToogyHowser Жыл бұрын
clicking while pedaling? Derailleur could need to be adjusted, have you tried turning the barrel adjuster at the shifter? try turning it in or out a few turns and see if the clicking goes away.

so far it seems really good! I find this bike pedals better than any other MTB I've had. I was able to climb up my short little hill here no problem 3 times, usually I'm walking some of it. and I'm not even in that great of shape, so I was impressed.
