Doing my mandatory monthy rewatch of this. I still can't believe the bass groove from the harpejji on this one.

Great to see the Harpeji in this setting, and even better to see the breadth of the 24 string model, taking up the duties of the Bass. ;)

This is definitely the best live harpejji performance on all of youtube. If there are more, please share!

This is truly fantastic. I am waiting as patiently as I can for my Harpejji to be ready from the shop, so I can finally realize my longstanding wish of playing this marvelous instrument. In the meantime, at least I have lovely performances like this to enjoy! Note that in the he is playing mid/full range accompaniment and melody during the introduction, then when the band comes in he is covering melodic territory (with the keyboardist comping in his right hand on the nord and playing bass on the synthesizer with his left hand). Then, when the solo section comes up, the Harpejji is playing bass parts, and sounds very much like the type of bass guitar performance that is typical of contemporary jazz/funk/r&b. This highlights an interesting aspect of the versatility of the instrument. If you aren't watching a video one might assume there is two guitarists, and a bass guitarist, and maybe even another keyboardist and a hand percussionist, but between the harpejji and the keyboardist they are able to delegate certain musical responsibilities between them and cover a wide range of sonic territory in tandem.

Nice performance! Trying to figure out who is playing the bass @2:24 ? Is that the Harpeji?

Absolutely gorgeous. I would love to hear more of your original songs as much as I love the covers! I keep coming back to listen to this track. Great work by the whole band.

I listened this again after your last nights gig with Turku Jazz Orchestra. Your belonging to the lovers club of the music of Pat Metheny is tattooed into the the music. In the beginning of the solo I found myself thinking "this is how Jezz Beck should have been able to express himself". This said, I challenge you to do a version of "Are you going with me?" by Pat Metheny. In addition to harpeiji the lineup should also contain a bass player as smooth but yet as precise as Steve Rodby, a drummer with as meditative touch as Paul Wertico's and of course a keyboard player playing everything that is needed with as little notes as Lyle Mays did. I do have some old school names in mind to fulfil the roles but as you know the young generation, use your network. If you play it in a concert, I will come and listen and I mean listen because I cannot see anything when I hear this song.

This is the first track that I have seen where dynamics have worked on the harpejji, usually the sound is very flat. Good to know that it is possible when played properly.

Valter this is awesome. So glad I accidentally ran across it today. "Sweet listening pleasure" is correct. Is the Moog bass pre-sequenced? It looks like Artis has his hands full with other keyboard parts.

Hi Todd, Thanks for the listening. Moog bass was played live, hammond organ was overdubbed later by Valter. :) A.

I love this instruments but here in Italy there's no way to give it a try. In your opinion it's more intuitive to grasp the technique being a pianist or a guitarist? (I'm a pianist). Another question: how much dynamics has the Harpejji, if compared to a guitar, not counting pedals? Great music, anyway! Ciao! Paolo

Hi Paolo, the dynamic range is more than enough to be musically expressive. As a pianist you are in a great position to start. I come from a piano background and it really is very intuitive.

I did notice the string setup a bit higher than i was expecting, which possibly lends itself to greater dynamics too. Or maybe it was just the lighting.

Hey Valter, huge fan love the Jacob Mann cover. As a fellow Harpejji Player, it's great to see you performing with a band. I think you need to front man a bit more though. You should have taken a crazy solo in the middle. It's Valter's Harpejji Band, not some guy with a synth+guitar band. Its cool that you can comp with bass lines but don't let the other instrumentalists overshadow you too much. Looking forward to hearing more!
