@@baileyrichards3630 You're really dumb if you think it was ok for him to just walk in to a situation without having a full understanding about what's going on and pull a gun. The first thing he should have done is anounced himself as a police officer. Then he should have asked the store owner if the guy had paid for the candy. wrong. someone who jumps to conclusions, should not be a cop. he pulled a gun over suspected candy thief, there's nothing wrong with it. i agree wtih the victim, cop's arrogance was the problem. they way he treated him like he was trash, that was the problem. cop should have started by asking "did he pay for it", not pull a gun on him and tell him to put back what he paid for.

@@SethiozProject "he pulled a gun over suspected candy thief" He could have just said, "Look, I'm an off-duty police officer. Put that candy back before I arrest you." Instead he pulled a gun. He should not be a cop. Of course he disqualifies himself by jumping to conclusions. But this was not him stopping a violent crime in progress. No gun was needed. The threat alone would have caused a shop-lifter to comply. He didn't ask the cashier first because cops don't care what a witness has to say, they care about establishing dominance through fear. Once his gun was out, he felt like he was "in control" of the situation. He wasn't even in control of himself.

He could have asked the proprietor if the gentleman paid for the candy and avoided the drama and embarassment to himself and department. I would file a civil suit at minimum. No blog lines will probably allow time to unpackage this and do justice, assuming there is such a thing. The off duty officer handled this situation poorly. Without knowing what kind of day he had, he is now off duty and likely near home as it's along his ride presumably. He was slow/ sloppy on his draw and if a true criminal he likely would've been shot. When your first choice is the highest level of force it leaves little room to deseclate or even resolve a matter. The patron later says not to fire but training. I've seen a few bloggers say he is pass trainable, there is something below the surface, and the system cannot be relied on to investigate much less address. Without knowing his day, he is likely local to the area. As my late father would say "it takes two cents to jiggle." His actions as much play into the outcome as the other person's. When you pull out a firearm it leaves little room to deseclate.

The cop assumed the victim was stealing merchandise from the store by pocketing stuff and when the victim tried to hastily pull out the candy from his coat to show it was the item he bought, the cop thought he was pulling out a weapon thus why the cop quickly pulled out his gun. You act like most cops are bad but you're wrong. Most cops are actually good and yeah some can be pricks but they still do their work which is to help clean the streets you should be thanking police.

A friend of mine was working security at a construction site a few years ago when the police decided to use his car for target practice. He was sleeping in the car when this happened. Not sure what these idiot cops were thinking, but my friend said he just remembered waking up because he thought someone was throwing rocks at his car. Oddly enough, he said when he came out of his car the cops were extremely apologetic. Thank goodness he wasn’t hurt. The department bought him a new car and he received a hefty settlement from the city. He said he was gonna take a year off of work, afterwards.
