In this video we finally have all the chimney parts to install our Jotul 602 wood stove in the cabin. The takeoff on the stove is 5” and the piping is 6”, so a little adaptation is required. Nonetheless, it turns out nice and easily heats our small cabin. Comment is you have questions. Enjoy!

The base (crimped end) of the stovepipe needs to fit inside the stove collar. Jotul makes an adaptor to fit a 6in pipe to the stove collar. All crimped ends need to run towards the stove so the creasote flows back into the stove instead of leaking out.

Instead of using a wooden shim under one leg of your Jotul 602 I used a large, thick washer. Safer and couldn't really see it unless you were told it was there.

I grew up with that same wood stove and the next bigger model . Well done with your building.

Some thoughts on your build. Replace the shim under the wood stove with some fender washers of appropriate height, or, if the offending leg is detachable, shim it down from the stove body. Also, you should install jack studs below your loft rafters. Don't rely on the shear strength of the screws alone to hold any weight for any length of time; they won't.

i just installed a Jotul 602 in my garage. it had a 5 in receiver. i found a 5 to 6 in connector that allowed me to go inside, the way its supposed to be done so you dont get any creosote dripping out onto the outside of the pipe or on the stove. i've had it sitting in the basement for almost 30 years. its bullet proof. fire brick on the bottom would work too. my only complaint is the short 16 in wood, but for my garage, they will be nice short fires. nice job.

I'm guessing that was a stove pipe kit you bought, which one is it? I'm gonna have to do the same here soon. Love all your videos.

Congratulations, you are good! But, the length of your chimney is short, you have to go beyond the spine for safety reasons. Gratulálok, ügyes vagy! De, a kéményed hossza rövid, a gerincen túl kell érnie biztonsági okok miatt.

Hi Jerry, thanks for watching the series, hope you enjoyed it. Work is still ongoing but has slowed down due to kids sports schedule this spring. Covered porch and some furnishings coming this summer. Stay tuned. Thanks again.

It is a shed afterall. The solid lumber helps in moisture management. comment a snow shelve to protect from sliding roof snow is recommended.

I have a Jotul 602 And my only gripe is a short burn time. Yes im using OAK or Maple hard wood. It seams like 4 hours is Max. I have not tried to dampen it down to almost nothing. Whats your burn times like?? I would like to stoke at like 10 11 and still have something at 6 would be Ideal... But at like 4am its OUT like no heat and the cabin is cold....

Having installed this stove late last season, I do not have a good idea on run time, though initial burns tell me they’re short as you mention. In addition to the door damper I installed a damper in the flue so with a little testing this coming winter, I hope to get 5-6 hour burns. We’ll see. Thanks for watching.
