We decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 13 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

I have a 250w and an 1000w Jackery and I'm off grid I still have to use electric or car battery because of lack of sunshine . For Ur info don't let it drain past 20w as it will shorten the life of ur Jackery 🥴 enjoy it... I still love the fact it's free power with Mr Sun 🤨

What does it cost 🤔 to harness "Free" Power .. Thousands for a decent Set Up..and No Sunshine ..no Charging..or very little Think Seriously about it Before Investing..

It’s a fair point. I got this for free so good value. With the price of energy right now I think it could be a good investment. Doubling up with reducing consumption would be good. We don’t need a big setup to run our daily kWh usage

This is the mini I had for a few weeks and sent it back, because I couldn't justify the amount of money.. but a month or so later, Bought a Delta 1300 for about the same. Wow! Things are looking quite frosty. The yurt must be a bit cool. Is there enough insulation to maintain comfort with the wood stove? I hope those pipes don't rupture. Here in🇨🇦, the winters can be quite brutal. But at least, Nova Scotia has the mildest winters in 🇨🇦. But we do get an extreme cold warning here and there, but Jan and Feb are the hard months. I imagine our little bit of frost is nothing compared to where you are. It stays nice and warm with the fire on. Can be a bit chilly in the mornings. The yurt is sheep wool insulated :)

Glad it was helpful! I haven’t tried it for long periods with power hungry devices but I will try it. All my tools bar a couple are battery. If we flatten it to about 60% it’s normally fully charged by the end of the day if we aren’t using it heavily

That unit takes all the scary out of solar power. Have you covered the legalities of living in a yurt while building? This might be an option for my family.

Well the yurt technically is a temporary structure. I can’t see an issue as it’s no different to having a mobile while doing building. It’s a very straight forward bit of kit to use but I guess limited if you want to power a big space. We don’t use a lot of power so it’s been perfect for us in the yurt
