If I was considering such a move, my greatest fear would be that the 'Govt' in all its forms these days, seem increasingly hell bent on producing rules and regs (at the drop of a hat & without logic), designed to take away all forms of independence from every sovereign Brit! If not this year then next, or next ?

Thats true, but we will be less vunerable that those in cities , who will be starving, locked down , who knows? Im in Catalunya so don,t have same problems , cos they love people to get the little farms in production again . But im here also because i could afford to buy and live here . And just blend into the rural culture ,which has Not been wiped out like uk .almost all villages have all amenities. And as a bonus the stress of uk disappeared and my health improved in all sorts of ways..mental and physical .as to when to do it, id say sooner rsther than later,, if you can,, if they revrrse brexit land prices here will spiral .and in uk a they do anyway..

Yes, I was nervous discussing what we paid as obviously that was 11 years ago and a private sale, land has at least doubled in price around here in that time, but it’s still difficult to value small parcels of land as they can literally sell for whatever people are prepared to pay!

Very interesting hearing your experience. Costs are going massive for sure. I can’t help thinking that a community of about 100 would be helpful with shared stocks of extras, like generators, fuel etc
@livingoffgridinscotland

It’s very difficult working with other people or trying to form a Co operative in practice, I try and have everything bought well in advance and have sufficient spare generators etc from past experience if I lend people tools or equipment they generally come back broken so I don’t ask to borrow off others either, prefer to look after ourselves…. There would be legalities in the uk if one person was buying red diesel and then sub selling to others, a crime similar to dealing drugs these days…

Yeah that wouldn’t work when you get too many people envolved. You will have certain people using tonns of electricity and you will have some people using very little. But they all have to chip in the same? Better off going at it alone!

I'm guessing you have come from and still exist in relative poverty, only people that don't have wealth speak on it, that's what we understand as "neuvo rich" and they're usually showing what they've got with designer clothes, tacky jewellery cars and homes. Truly wealthy often look like farmers and would never ever discuss finances&money, it's a class thing& altho I don't come from money,I've learnt by improving my personal circumstances and being around the wealthy that you should never discuss money and that's how I read this guys hesitancy, plus his 8acres isn't worth the same amount now as it was a month ago nevermind 11 years ago& the difference by county and quality simply can't be put into numbers. Yes I'm glad he told us the numbers for the other stuff but the land doesn't matter to me and you, only him!

Scottish gov granted croftmanship to WOODLAND up at the killfinan forest 4 or 5 plots, they had to build their houses using their alloted forest, this should be made widespread in scotland, tho the price of woodland might go thru the roof ( again) ticks is my biggest problem being in the middle of nowhere lol
@livingoffgridinscotland

In general land is going through the roof, they granted permission to establish smallholdings near Livingston a few years ago, but it was a one off, never happened again and planning policy didn’t change

I think with rising living costs in the uk, living off grid will be much cheaper and much popular this year. The government is predicting power cuts by august and trying to find ways to get people to ration their electric usage in peak times to avoid blackouts

@@livingoffgridinscotland I agree in general. My siblings and I were raised by very resourceful parents, and I think all of us have the preference and propensity to simplify, especially when conditions are adverse like they will be over the next 12-18 months. I especially liked your video highlighting the off grid chores, pointing out how if you don't like particular required activities, you're not going to like/survive off grid. That's what I meant by quality... More like conditions, of living off grid.

Hi George, we’ve been contacted by a few TV agencies recently and at present it’s not something we’re looking to get involved in. Since we’ve started KZbin sadly we’ve been experiencing “visitors” just turning up especially on a weekend because they want to come and see us, sadly this is our home and not a tourist attraction so for that reason we don’t particularly want to be on national TV. Sorry about this, but we’ve had second thoughts several times this year about continuing to do KZbin and Facebook since people feel it’s their right to just turn up and wander around our smallholding.
