Off grid Shower Build + HONEST Thoughts on Cabin

I opened up in this video regarding my thoughts about the cabin and memories we have had there. Thanks for coming along for the ride. :)
I have been having fun with the ideas for the outdoor shower. This is just the start of the ideas for this piece of the cabin. It feels good to build pieces of our tiny space in the woods.
Slowly but surely we are looking to turn to off-the-grid solutions for power and waste. We would like to grow as composters and gardeners. For now though, our focus is still on the cabin building process. Thank you for joining us.
I camp and hike in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I'm also building and enjoying an off- grid cabin in the woods with my partner Cory and the kiddos Nora and Ethan! I love sharing the journey with you!

The shower deck will sink and twist but that small of a platform will be easy to correct. Get it on cement blocks when possible. 👍

I love that you felt you could change your mind about feeding the birds in the summer without feeling like you had to apologize! What you said made so much sense! I too was thinking I likely wouldn’t feed birds in the summer, but guess what?! I used to do it too. Because it’s fun! But now I just make sure they have a little extra help I. The winter. No apologies needed. Just a change of mind! No right, no wrong! Thanks for sharing that with us the way you didM

I feel the same about my cabin in the woods. There is one window trim board that's just a tiny bit crooked that we meant to straighten, and 10 years later it's still crooked but nobody but me and husband notices it. I just sit on the porch and enjoy the sound of the woods and the animals. That's my favorite place to be.

@9:05 For that poison ivy, get some stuff called Fels Naptha. It's actually an old school (like from the 1800's) clothes detergent in bar form. Should be able to get it in almost any Walmart or decent sized grocery store. It's extremely cheap and will break down the oils on your skin and clothes from the poison ivy. They used to require us to carry some in our packs when I was a kid in Boy Scouts. Thankfully I've never had to use it, but everyone else I knew that got it, used that stuff and it took care of it.

I can try! I don't measure anything though.... Start by beginning to cook the lentils. They take the most amount of time. I boil maybe 1/4 cup lentils and add water to about an inch over the top of the lentils. I boil until the water is gone. Then I taste the lentil and if it is not soft enough I add more water and wait until that boils away. While lentils are cooking, I start the rice. I cook rice according to the instructions given. Then I sauté onions, ginger, garlic, greens (spinach, kale, etc), and whatever veggies I have available. I also add spices. I go crazy with the herbs and spices. Then I mix everything in a bowl and maybe throw some cilantro on top.

Open air showers are the best. Your in the woods, no need for a curtain. I agree with getting the wood up on some cement blocks.
