Knowing the weather in an emergency is really important as far as planning goes. I incorporated getting an accurate weather report in the last S.E.T. Exercise. I also submitted a request for directions to a location, but they could only use paper or offline maps.

Also look for ASOS transmitters broadcasting on the VHF aircraft band. Most airports have these Automated Surface Observation Stations. They continually transmit weather conditions.

If I explore it, it won't be with Windows. I don't own a Windows box but check out the video by HRCC. He used Windows for his demo.

These are not off grid. Off grid means not relying in ANY infrastructure you dont control. These all rely on satellites and are very much "on grid". Now, true; these are not internet based or cellular based and will probably work when Internet and cell is down. This may seem nitpicky but it is important to remain factually accurate, if only for newbs 😊 Thanks for the vid though! Great overview of several great options to access NOAA data via our beloved tech. 🎉

not connected to or served by publicly or privately managed utilities (such as electricity, gas, or water) u can run this on a pi its off the grid. its true radio signals and off the grid..

Each of these is a viable solution for getting weather details when the individual operator is off grid. It sounds like you are referring to a grid down situation which is completely different.

You are nitpicking David. How to get weather reports when the USER is off grid is how I interpreted it. As KM4ACK mentioned, he is not discussing a "Grid Down" scenario.
