Off Grid Well Pump Extremely Simple DIY Installation

Installing a submersible pump in my 62 foot deep well on my off grid land. This pump is extremely easy to install because it already comes with a 100 foot electrical cord attached to it. I will be making more videos soon showing how I'm running the water a few hundred feet over to my gardens, outdoor shower and new tiny home/trailer.

To keep water pressure in the line, proper water tight fittings are necessary at the pump. At the very least I hope you put a clamp on the blue pex pipe.

Ya I put a clamp on the pipe. The metal and plastic 1.25 inch adapter I screwed on really tight. Didn’t feel like they needed anything else on them

Teflon tape is $1, definitely worth it lol, especially putting extra stress on the pump reducing it so much. Even submerged it's not good to have leaks. Ideally, 1.25" schedule 40 pvc or 1" pex would be much better than that 3/4 - that ID is really small for this application & will burn that pump out much quicker. When you upgrade the pump, definitely take the time to install it correctly.

I’m not a pro but you may want to pull it up and redo the fittings using primer and PVC glue on the press fitting and I believe liquid Teflon of some sort at the threaded side. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Don’t forget to press and rotate quarter turn and hold for 30 sec on the male/female. Btw did you ever put on the grommet so the pump does not rotate? I’m curious about that as I am going to be doing a well soon as well. All the best, thanks for the cool vid!

Should have taped wires to pipe above the pump. Over time they might work down between pump and well and get ruined when the pump kicks on. As for drilling wood over the well, it’s your water so do as you please

Does pump come with an anti drain back check valve or do they want it to drain to prevent freeze potential?

Usualy tou would put a pump arrestor on also. It's a rubber diaphragm style thing that pushes against the side of the well casing so that when the pump kicks on and tries to spin in the well your wires, pipes and rope dont twist up, chafe and break.

As a rule, the pros around here only install torque arrestors on pumps of 1.5 hp or greater. Smaller pumps won't give you any trouble.

Looks like paracord or equivalent rope. Usually they use polypropylene rope.. just an FYI if its nylon it absorbs water and starts deteriorating. How fast, i don't know. figure that pump will last a few years. Hate for the pump to fall or not be retrievable. I would pull check next year and make sure its ok(if it is nylon).

Teflon tape is cheap, as is pipe dope, and should be used to more or less to make sure is an air tight fit not to hold pump up. The line attached to pipe is suppose to do that. I'm sure you will have some chime in about mixing metal and plastic fittings. I'm no plumbing expert, but it looks good. Nice little project. It's all coming together quite well.

Thanks. I didn’t use the tape or putty because a plumber told me it wasn’t necessary under water if the fittings were screwed in tight. I don’t think I said anything about the fittings with tape/putty would be better or worse at holding the pump up. Just that the adapters most likely don’t need it under water. I doubt the pressure will bust them apart like others are commenting

i'm trying the same thing only my pump is there, i just got the hose and wires out of the casing about 6 feet. my problem is the pump is 220v.

Not going to. In the winter I’ll only use it to fill a rv tank once every week or two. The line won’t have water in it while not in use. The rv underbelly with water tank will be heated by propane

1 hp is fine/ sideways .. go mile.. dont much matter!!! Need Real well seal cap /gots holes for pipe and all.. ..reduced 3/4.. not bad.. it be ok.. ... neeed auto shut off switch and tank for reduced times come on and off/ last longer... #1 problem i seen !!!!!!!! galvanized metal to allum/ or stainless (the nipple you put on pump) that will swell and cause alot corrosion and may break pump over time swelling.. also you drink that ! use plastic nipple.. ! 3/4 pvc is cheeper and will do it/ just slows pressure tiny bit/ 1 inch is excellent for short runs.. 3/4 for looong ways.. when bury 2 feet deep.. the 1 inch wont freeze as likely... wierd but 3/4 is easier to freeze if dont leave water dripping. please you purple cleaner before glue- dats a must for glue welds that last forever!!! ive seen 1 month laTER AND POOF /POPPED LOOSE .. NO CLEANER TO SOFTEN THE PIPE ! 4x laps each.. cleaner and glue.. = peeeerfect.
