Nice work. I pulled a trailer full of drilling augers with the pintle hook and was one of the most terrifying road trips ever. Although the trailer was a little heavy for the F-450. Still I stay away from those hooks

You are all missing why it was designed like it was, so DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT lock the Pintal Eye or the Pintle Hitch/Hook or you will pay dearly. I served in the Army for 40 years and retired in 2014, so I have had extensive experience with this trailer. I have towed them all over Australia and many different countries while on various deployments and I have owned one myself for many years. I have seen one that was locked and the trailer rolled and took the Rover with it and they were both badly damaged. These trailers were designed do roll the Pintle Eye, so leave them alone and allow them to do what they were designed too do. They were first designed too work with Hitches that did not rotate so the vehicle would not roll when the trailer did. The Military in their wisdom decided to have both a rotating Eye and a rotating Pintle hook, just to be safe. So, if your vehicle does not have a rotating hitch on your towbar, then the rotating Eye attachment will not roll your vehicle over if it decides too roll itself. Remember also, these trailers were designed too travel NO faster than 80kph, so if it gets the wobbles, SLOW DOWN.

Agree.... although when you pick these up from the auctions the Pintle eye's are all pinned. The speed thing is very good advice.

If you still have the Treg hitch have a look at the McHitch coupler for the poly block style hitches to make it so much easier to hook up.

I did this mod many years ago but didn't know Treg made a hitch to suit these trailers. I know the Treg hitch wouldn't be cheap so maybe I saved money by buying a Treg style hitch online then having an engineer make then press a sleeve into the original pintle housing for the block hitch.

i don't know, I have a no5 camper and I think the pintle is the best coupling for going offroad. the fact that the army stopped lateral rotation has stopped my camper from going over on it's side, you don't want to tip your camper in the middle of nowhere, especially one thats made of plywood that's going to shatter into pieces.

Consider a hitch anti rattle clamp. It’ll take the noise out and take that minimal movement out. You can even make one with a u bolt and a piece of steel. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong by adding bags inside the coils. The spring rates for TJs are rather soft, even OME springs.

one other thing u can do to help with the play is get a smaller pin hole hitch i mean really u could fit ur arm thru the damn hole no wonder there was 7miles of play in it so smaller hitch hole or a bigger actual hitch will also solve that problem if u prefer the pinle hitch

FWIW they were pintle hitch and hooks that were suitable to each other. They work fine on agricultural trailers, there's just better options out there for non commercial use.

your choice of pintle hook is one that is inappropiatly for the eye, non wonder you were having problem with the tow connection. - you will always get such play from a non NATO pintle or one of the wrong size - the NATO pintle on the Perentie 110 does not allow such movement as it is a appropiatly tolerenced to match the eye. Thanks for posting. The TREG units are a good unit

What size drill bit did you use for the pin?

Cant remember, although I did size it up with the pin, then went smaller then I thought. Then upsized 0.5mm
