I'm not surprised by this video at all. I regularly drive my 2020 2.7L on rough fire roads. It's stock except for the tires (Cooper Discovery AT's). For off-roading, I can say the 2.7 is definitely adequate as long as you have a 4x4. I feel a lot better now knowing the thousands that I saved on my truck versus going for a V6 TRD!

It’s ok-ish off-road, the 4 cyl doesn’t have much torque so forget any serious off roading but some minor stuff is fine , as for towing it’s rated to tow 3500 lbs but I don’t think it would do it very well

My dream engine and transmission combo for 3rd gen Tacoma! I had to settle for a MT V6 OR because that wasn't available. People think more cylinders equals more better obviously have never driven the Toyota 22R or 2/3RZ. Sick truck dude!! 🤙

@Ryan V More DIY friendly and easier when it's time for maintenance from my experience with older Toyota 4 cylinder engines. Not sure about this 3rd gen Tacoma 4cyl engine but the 2/3RZ and 22R were just better than the V6's of the same years. Not to mention, a huge aftermarket support for those engines. 👍

The single over head cam in my 85 toyota truck was incredible believe it or not that little engine in that tin truck carried masonry supplies for the business I was in then once it was so loaded I cold barely steer front wheels just touching the pavement but I got all that stuff to the job sight heat gage hardly moved and I kept up with traffic on the highway turning was a little scary and I never took that chance again but used the he'll out of it close to 30 m.p.h. and in the last five years I ran into the guy I sold it to rust box but engine turned right over said he can't bare to part with it changed the brakes 4 or 5 times a couple of clutch replacements he's got the money could be driving anything from this century but he's still thinking of a full on restoration I guess after thirty odd years together what ever makes you happy

What a sweet set up! So looking at purchasing exact trim for the 2022 SR 4 banger. My question is do you think there would be any issue given theres only an automatic option now for the 2022? Also you think this set up could handle something along the lines of Imogen Pass? About to move to CO and i'd be mega new to the over landing 4x4 community. Just trying to see if I can save myself a couple grand or if I should go v6 route.

Just in case you’re still wondering, I have the same configuration in my truck. It’s not ‘bad’. You don’t have that much passing power, and if you’re coming up on a steep hill you may need to drop a gear to maintain speed. But it cruises at 70/80 all day without an issue. The fastest I’ve been able to get it was about 94, but it’s not a race truck so I’m not concerned. Off-road I have 0 complaints, the 4 banger has plenty of low end grunt especially in the lower gears. 1st gear seems very short and you can go as slow as 5mph without bogging out not to mention 4lo. If you wanna get the job done nothing more and nothing less, get one of these.

@@alexgarcia3900 yeah man I love it don’t get me wrong but sometimes I find myself looking for an automatic access cab trd.
