The Patriot is an SUV with McPherson strut suspension like a hatchback. This is an actually 4x4 offroader. It's basically a 75% scale Wrangler. You should see what Australians do with older Jimnys when we lift the suspension and put bigger wheels on.

Auto journalists should petition Suzuki to bring this little guy here. I have a jeep, and I'd buy a Jimny in a heartbeat. Had a Samurai back in the day....guys in jeeps couldn't believe we were following them in the trails. Very capable 4wheeler. Especially stick! I only wished for more power on the highway. Off road, never needed or wanted extra horses. Had fun with it like a kid on Christmas morning. NEVER should have sold it. I'll be amongst the first to order one if Suzuki brings 'em over. Nice vid! you're confusing flex with travel. travel is how far a wheel goes up and down. flex is how much the axle angles itself side-to-side (or how far each wheel travels independently of each other) before it picks up a wheel.

LOL, half the comments are about it not sold in the US... The problem isn't with Suzuki, it's about there being two different vehicle standards in the world. UN-ECE for the whole world except the US and Canada, and FMVSS/CMVSS in the US and Canada. Of course Suzuki isn't going to spend money designing it to meet F/CMVSS if they don't think they're going to make a profit. Had the US allowed UN-ECE vehicles I am sure there would be many more different vehicles to choose from, including this one...

Only thing I can think of that would need a change is to power and gearing for highway cruising. Here in the US we have a lot of highways, and many people have to drive them to get to work. With this thing turning 3.5k RPMs going 70 and with next to no pulling power at that point, very few people would buy this to use as a daily driver, and very few people have the money to buy one of these as a fun run-about-town car. That being said, if they gave it a sixth gear and about 150/160 HP instead of 100, that might be all it takes. I don't imagine this would be that hard to add either, as vehicles like the Renegade can get 177HP out of a turbo 4 and it doesn't cost all that much more than the Jimny.

First of all thank you Jalopnik for giving it a semi decent off road review. Kinda fed up with a lot of reviewers on testing the on road characteristics and then saying it's a bit rubbish because of certain design decisions that are there to make it better off road! Also Land Rover need to take note for the new defender because THIS is how you update you beloved 4x4 and modernise it. Pretty much everyone i've spoken to with a Jimny at the moment loved the design of the new one, Can't say the same for current LR owners

I'm just going to pipe in with my two cents, if these were being sold in the US I probably would have bought one a couple months ago. Just bought a new car and ended up going with a little hatch because I wanted something with a manual transmission that was fun to drive, but would have sacrificed speed for 4WD and offroading/snow capability in a heart beat. I know I'm just one person, but I'm imploring Suzuki to bring these to the US. It'll be a few years until I'm in the market again, but if you guys give us one of these with a little more HP and a sixth gear, it very well might be my next car.

I love my wife's Renegade, but would rather have this. Why can't we have it in the US? Partner with GM and use the 1.6l diesel. Would make that little thing a beast. It's already emissions legal. Would probably see 40+mpg in such a lightweight vehicle. Just make it happen, Suzuki.

If they made this as a plugin hybrid it would easily be my favourite car. The zero rpm torque and no minimum speed would make it the king of sand driving for towing small boats.

Brian Austin Only one that’s 25 years old or older (and there are plenty of those). There are a few exemptions available for more modern imports such as for collections. You should be able to find the import rules online.

the suspension doesnt flex because the swaybars are attached. if you want to flex it out like a rock crawler you disconnect them

Jimny is a good car.. but to be honest it's just too small.. it would be more appealing car if it was a bit bigger.. not as big as other suvs in market.. but something in between and it would still be a small car.. but more desirable.. and capable! i mean this car length with the tiny wheels is not suitable for overlanding compared to other normal sized Suvs.. these small suvs must be driven slowly when going off road! i've once driven a small one door Pajero over mountains roads with many rocks (little bigger than jimny and it's off-road ability is among the best in market).. yet it was scary experience if not dangerous.. the rocky land had many loose rocks over ground.. and the car was jumping on every small rock and tries to turn in every direction.. i was literally was trying to keep the car in straight line.. this is not same feeling i get when for example i drive large more capable SUV like land cruiser.. that car simply absorbs such terrain much better, more suited for longer roads with higher speed driving.. the pajero managed to get me to the desired destination.. but ever since that day i think for a proper off roader.. you need more body size + wheel size.. if you want to buy a car for off-roading.. land cruiser is simply is the best.. don't waste money on any other car.

Jakub sure, that's why i got to change the shafts in my samurai every 2 years, because they're better... and the mounts of the transfer case can be steel, but the transfer itself is aluminum
