I’ve been exploring and adventuring the Oregon coast, pretty much full-time for the last three years. I know where these roads are I can see them on onx, but I can’t usually find the entrance to the trails. Congratulations on the new rig that will definitely get you further. I did pretty much the same thing going from the Bronco Sport to a Jeep. Grand Cherokee; my main reason for switching was more towing capacity and more storage capacity. I’ll keep an eye out for the new rig on the trail.

Thanks for commenting and always glad to hear from someone from the PNW. Love the Grand Cherokee! I’ll keep my out for it on the trail too. I use Gaia maps which is pretty good labeling the trails. I also have used Trails Off-Road which gives trail ratings, coordinates, and you can upload the tracks to Gaia. Hope this helps! There’s definitely things I miss about the Subie but 4Runner just had longer term potential for what I want to do!

I just got back from a trip from seaside to Tillamook thinking around doing some Instagram clips but I’m heading back out in the morning. I have to take my trailer back to the factory to have some adjustments done

Congrats on the new rig, seemed way more capable than the older silver 4runner. Was it just the tires? or other traction control devices too. I know you will miss the fuel mileage of the Subie but what's the point if you cannot carry the gear for longer trips with friends. Thanks for posting!

Thank you yeah I’m loving it! Fortunately I work remotely and don’t drive that much except weekends so fuel economy isn’t too big of a concern, otherwise yeah I’d definitely be missing the Subie ☺️. My truck was quite a bit more capable than older 4Runner, but it’s a combination of things, including all the ones you mentioned. The suspension is fairly shot on that older 4Runner, it’s quite a bit lower, worse angles, tires etc. But I can definitely say that the A Trac system paired with 4 low in the 5th gen works incredibly well. It really forces the power to the wheels on the ground when you’re in that ‘rocking’ type situation. Didn’t have to use the rear locker yet. Some people think that the traction control features are gimmicks but so far I’ve found them to add real capability. Thanks for your comment and observations!!

Hey! Thanks for commenting. Easiest way to find these trails is get a free trial of trails off-road app for 7 days, and look in the Tillamook state forest area. You can easily upload the gps tracks to Gaia, and trails are rated for difficulty. Alternatively, 45.54571, -123.57031 is coordinates to archers road which has loads of trails connected to it. Not sure if you are familiar with this or not, I just realized this, but the trails will have signs with trail name and rated difficulty that corresponds to ski trail markings, with blue, green, or black / double black diamond ratings. Hope this helps!

Are you running Wheel Spacers with those TRD Off Road rims? I am wanting to go with the Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 LT285/75R17 and wanted to know if the Wheel Spacers would be needed to clear the spindles and UCA.

Great question! I just upgraded to 285/75/17s Falken Wildpeaks. Which would be about the same size. Every set up will be a little bit different but counterintuitively spacers and/or positive offset wheels will actually make rubbing worse. The tire ends up being out more which makes it actually swing wider inwards as well. You want zero offset, no spacers, and a body mount chop and high clearance cut as well as some trimming of plastic and mud flap delete to make that tire size fit.

@@wildernessnorthwest9604 Thanks for the reply! I've got the 0 offset TRD Offroad Rims on my '21 Limited. and I love that it doesn't increase the scrub radius. Since i'm pretty close to the UCA and Spindle with my 275/70R17s I was concerned that just that little bit wider with the 285/75R17 might rub a bit. I think you've got a really dialed in setup!
