What a cool cabin. Didn't realize this was on a route I have planned for a 7-day trip in March. I plan to continue up the road, camp at another cabin in South Park, then go along the ridge overlooking Butte Valley and back down through Pleasant Canyon. I anticipate the views being pretty amazing from up there. ~Cheers

One of the best trips in the park. Just did it a month ago. There are a few cabins up top but nothing like Briggs camp. They are not maintained. The loop is amazing and the views from up top spectacular. Need any recon I’ve done 1000 miles off road just this year there. Have fun. Love it out there

@@prob1643 Technically, this will be my third Death Valley visit. In the previous two, it was just part of trip. This will be my first trip solely in Death Valley.

Been visiting these cabins for decades. Always very well maintained. In both cabins there is a place in the corner where you can hook up a propane bottle and have hot water and refrigerator.

When I do it in my RAM Rebel, on the side of a sheer cliff, I ask myself, why am I doing this? Why is Socal off-roading always involving a shelf road? Where is the flat stuff I see on KZbin?

I spent the weekend before Thanksgiving in DV. My friends and I were up at Stovepipe Wells, and drove to Chloride City and Cliff one day, then made the Racetrack Playa loop going over Hunter Mountain to Tea Kettle Junction, and out on Lippincott. It was a fantastic weekend. I can't wait to get back to the valley.

I’ve stayed there three times in 30 yrs. They are much better now than 10 yrs ago. In the 90s they were fine. This trail up and around to Surprise Canyon(remembering right?) is a great trail. There’s a book, These Canyons are Full of Ghosts that first inspired me to come out there from Vegas in the mid 90s.

Great video, Jason. It's good see you are still putting camping vids out there. I hope this summer I will be able to take a few trips south to either Death Valley or at least to the Owens Valley to do some camping. I live near Carson City, NV and hope to catch you sometime out on the trail.

Took my 2016 JK into the dirt last week (outside of Phoenix). Great day. Spent the next three days cleaning it. Used my Lucas Penetrating Oil and Interior Detailer. Neighbors looked at me kind of funny when I was cleaning and oiling the diff and axle housings. Don’t care…it looks great now.

One of my favorite WJ episodes is you and Mike exploring the old mining sites. I didn't think that video was that old till now O_O Got excited when I saw this video was the two of you out having fun again! I think this is the first video you mentioned ever owning a Sport Trac and it was even one of the old Red Bull Rigs. How freaking cool! Very capable underdog of a wheeling rig.

Guys are boogying down that trail. Been retired for 7 years now. Keep thinking of picking up some 4x4 rig to do some of this get out of town stuff. Being in SoCal, any sort of adventure takes two hours just to get out of the stinking city. Even then you’re still around too many people before you get to some isolation. Like to live in one of those cabins. Sit out and enjoy the stars at night peace and quiet. I’d have a hard time returning back home after being out there or anywhere with peace and solitude.

I’m heading to DV Monday and considering checking out these cabins but other videos have made it seem as if this trail is extremely sketchy. Also the 7 rating is sort of detouring me. Would you say this trail is in good condition and be good for us? We’ve went up mengal pass and that trail was easy. We drive 2 door jks
@AutoEdits16 сағат бұрын
Getting from Ballarat to the Briggs Camp is WAY easier than Mengel pass at this moment. A 3 at most. If you wanted to continue on past Briggs through Southpark, there's a narrow shelf road with some "butt puckering" obstacles that aren't hard but unnerving to navigate. On this day we drove up to Southpark and came back down just to check it out... that's the section of video just before our lunch break... the most scary looking part. If you can handle that, you'd make it through just fine.
@prob164310 сағат бұрын
Easy to that point. Going up the shelf road is nervy but not technical. Go to the top and you will be rewarded with some of the best views in the park.
@prob164310 сағат бұрын
Also would recommend the bypass on the last section of pleasant canyon. It’s not so pleasant. Deep ruts and overgrown. Doable but will be pinstripes
