Recently flew to Florida. Ticket one way was $ 178, Air Canada received $62 of this fare. Govt fees are out of control and carefully hidden.

If the government lowers the taxes I do not believe the airlines will reduce the prices by the same amount.

Get rid of all the airport authorities in Canada which collect ridiculous AIF's every time we board a flight. These bureaucracies are ridiculous. Get back to the model where airports are run by Transport Canada under a federal umbrella which was done in the past.

I was a passenger on the plane where Alexis spoke last night returning from Ottawa. Canadians are poor at understanding that choice is the only way through this. They want low prices, but don’t understand the competition is truly the only way that this could be possible. Does anybody actually believe that if WestJet goes bankrupt Air Canada will have mercy on the consumer and charge less? If the government continues to tack fees on, More airlines will experience lower passenger volumes. To make up for this difference, those remaining passengers will simply be charged more, and this creates a massive barrier to entry for a new airline companies in our country. Throw union disputes, airport, improvement fees, and inflation into the mix, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. The only way forward is to offer as many choices as possible.

saying they will reduce their fares if fees and taxes are lower is gaslighting to another level
@joetran8798Күн бұрын
There is very little benefit to reducing the fees. Since airline tickets can vary (sometimes) by the hour, we wouldn't know if the reduction was actually done. Unless they show the breakdown (eg AIF, fuel surcharge, YQ charge, etc.) on the page confirming the flights picked (not hidden behind a username or anything). But they won't because that would show how much they're fooling around too.

Airports in Canada basically pay rent to the government. Airport fees from a small town that I am from in February 2023 was $73 and right now December 2024 it’s almost $90. Just the airport fees and taxes. It keeps going up every few months.

It's a corporate excuse, and in the USA, senators have also raised concerns about airlines charging passengers varying luggage fees on the same flight. 1/ revenue driven practice: the airlines gradually increase their rely on ancillary fees to boost their profit. Thus, basis travel necessities have been turned into profit centers at the consumers' expenses. 2/ A lack of transparency in fees, which can vary even among passengers on the same flight. Model 1 appears to be working effectively worldwide, with many airlines, particularly low-cost carriers, generating substantial profits and thriving.

Master spin, I thought the bag fee was the main issue 🤨 and soon, Canadian airlines will charge for oxygen during turbulence as an upgrade.They will blame the government for it.

The same flight with Air Canada or Westjet vs United or American is more than $800 difference for a flight I take 3 times a year. More than just government fees at work here.
@Uncle_Troy13 сағат бұрын
I think it's ridiculous that you can use your Westjet dollars on the airfare itself, but not the fees that come with the actual ticket.
@va3svd10 сағат бұрын
At some point, Canadians will accept the fact that taxation is theft. Westjet is showing you that reality.

Competition Competition Competition Please open up the markets, bring more participants, less regulation... It is the same with finance, telecom, retail, and health care. The market economy is the solution. Obviously, he wants to earn more, the gov protects him, because there are no participants in the market.
