Tyler, I’ve done six full 140.6 Ironman’s and this whole video never did I once think you did anything wrong. Listen, if you’re doing a self-supported IRONMAN “do your thing”. Take breaks, heck even if you draft ‘it’s your IRONMAN. You CANNOT and SHOULD NEVER draft in a race ... but if you’re doing your own thing, who cares. You do you. And lastly, when you walked downstairs backwards I laughed so loud! You’re awesome Man. I absolutely laugh at you, but it’s because you remind me of myself. And Iove laughing at myself. Please stop always worrying about what the critics/haters will say. You keep doing you. 😁👍

Bro, that was awesome ! However, I strongly advise you not to do a 30-days running challenge. Unlike swimming and cycling, running puts a lot of mechanical stress to your body and as you're not used to running that much you'll just end up injured... take it slow and start with 1 or 2 runs a week and increase your mileage by no more than 10% from one week to the next
@DavidvdGulik4 жыл бұрын
I was about to say the same exact thing. Your heart and lungs are not likely to be put under too much stress from running because you're so fit from cycling. But your muscles, tendons and joints are going to be your limiters and possibly put you in a lot of pain or even worse, get you injured, which might keep you off the bike for a while as well. Keep your intensity verrry controlled, no more than 3 times a week and don't go above 30 minutes for the first ~6 runs. Also try to start with 10 minutes of coordination exercises, this will help you a lot with developing your technique. Mind your body tension, keep an active posture, but don't strain. Try to not let arms, feet etc flap about, but do try to ease tension in your shoulders, arms, hands etc. All the while keeping that active posture

From what I've heard it was roughly 26 miles from Marathon to Athens, and the extra 0.2 was added after the Marathon was held as a competition, but the ruler of the area didn't want to move to see the finish, so he placed the finish line at his palace, adding 0.2 miles to the distance.
@chrismccarter68754 жыл бұрын
The distance between marathon and Athens is roughly 30k. The marathon was not a fixed distance in early Olympics (around 25 miles). At the London Olympics in 1908 the course was 26.2 miles and after this they decided to fix the distance

The current distance of 26.2 was to accommodate the wishes of the Queen of England at the 1908 Olympic games. the original distance was around 25 miles which is symbolic of the distance from Marathon to Athens which was originally run by the Messenger Phiedippides (spelling?) to announce that the Greeks had beaten the Persians at the Battle of Marathon. Legend has it that after announcing the the news he promptly collapsed and died.

Hey Tyler! I love all of your content and really enjoyed this video. I am a 15 year old swimmer and mountain biker, and I want to start road biking and triathlons. In the overhead shots around 5:57, I can see that as you swim, your fingers open and close. Keeping your fingers together will make your pull more efficient. I can also see that when you pull, you are trying to stay in a streamline position however, your arms are crossing in front of your body. This can cause you to swerve in the water and decrease your swimming efficiency. Try for your hands to enter the water just outside of shoulder width, and your body will rotate slightly to each side making you streamlined. I had this same problem a few years ago and after my coach corrected it I dropped 14 seconds off my 200 free. Keep up the good work with all of your content and training!

If you say "I'm going to swim 2.4, then ride 113, then I don't know" your body will plan on that. Great content. You're a beast for even trying this kind of effort. The mind is the absolute king of this. My first marathon was NYC - you finish the marathon, then you have to walk all the way up town, then walk all the way down. I couldn't tell you how many people ran strong all the way through the marathon, then passed out a half mile into the walk after the race was over. They set their minds to running 26.2, but that race is more like a 50k.

Great accomplishment. You really set yourself up for struggle ending the ride with that kind of vertical gain before embarking on your first ever marathon. You found a new level of mental suffering and strength and you will never forget it. Athan is a champion and you are his hero.

Tremendous effort and excellent video work. The first video of yours I ever watched was on your first triathlon; while your footage has improved drastically since then, you still willingly share your vulnerabilities and hardships. You have an awesome personality and continue seeking new challenges; so many cool things about your channel, dude.

The parking lot scene reminds me of David Goggins running the track for 24 hours straight. It messes with your mind. Major props for pushing through!

Super cool moment with your son. As a dad, it's those moments that make all the hard work worthwhile.

Your son is a boss, dude. That kid is in for a good future with a no-quit, leave-no-man-behind, attitude like that. That's the stuff the greats are made of.

Love the video, love the commentary, love your boy on his bike and your boy running with you (I actually got a bit choked up) and I love the T-shirt 'Ride bikes and actually get somewhere...' That killed me. Keep it up. You're an inspiration when you're crushing it and when you're getting crushed.

Congratulations, bro! Seriously, not something anyone can do with training let alone without. The mental battles are SO tough during an Ironman and probably one of the most over looked challenges. You don't know until you put yourself through it. Well done, sir! Hope you're recovering well and enjoying some QT with your son and family.

It was by far the hardest mental challenge I've ever faced

Well done! Thank you for sharing your journey. I’ve just signed up for my first Ironman. Marathon runs are so insane. After mile 18, you’re battling your own brain, telling it “We’re doing this!” Every time I finish one, I think “I can’t wait to finish another one.”😂
