Last weekend we raced the California Bicycle Racing Carson course as race number 2 of the CBR Criterium Race Series right here in Southern California. I did two races on the day including the CAT 2/3 race and also the Pro 1-3 race. I love being able to go for a win in the CAT 2/3, but that doesn't stop me from at least giving it my best in the Pro 1-3 on the off chance something shakes out in my favor.
Bottom line, even on limited fitness I want to make sure I'm giving it my all and trying to get away from the field when the opportunity presents itself. Of course, winning a SoCal Criterium Field Sprint is a bit unlikely for me, I've seen 1700W before, just not on my own head unit. My best bet is getting into a move.
On this day an early breakaway took off up the road and lapped the field. The whole dynamic of a race changes dramatically when someone laps, especially all three of the major represented teams in the race.
I tried my best, but ultimately got shelled out the back of this bike race. No worries though, I'll be back with better fitness to try again and again.
