an older gent just showed up on my new property (300 acres in the ADKs) with some pictures. it was from a time when he grew up on the property! he (and his family) were the ones who worked the fields for their own consumption, and placed some of those stone walls! the biggest surprise was looking at my FOREST , where just about 60 years ago was all fields of potatoes and corn!! simply amazing.

This is still one of my favorite videos. When I was a kid my family had a cabin in New Hampshire and I used to explore the woods. One time I found an old foundation and the family cemetery. The headstones were barely readable. I returned with paper and charcoal. The headstones dated to the late 1600’s. I used to return to the spot and just sit there imagining what it must have been like living their back then.

I live in a very small village and have an add on fireplace which has been closed up since I bought house four years ago. I SO want to use it. Nothing like the smell or heat from wood burning. My husband used to say you could judge a man by the size of his wood pile!!! We would go into woods, he would fell dead trees and I would pick mushrooms and then come and help load. So lonely without him so watching you and wife bring great joy to my heart. God Bless, stay strong and please stay healthy.
