I visited Salvation Mountain back around 2008. I was instructed by an old friend to bring a donation (not of cash but food). Leonard was there, and he took us around on a private tour of his mountain, and afterward, I gave him a can of beans. He was an honest person, and a good man. I only met him once, but i'll never forget shaking his hand. I'm glad there was a place in this world, even for someone like Leonard.

I remember my family traveling to meet my uncle and his family who were camping at the Salton Sea. We drove all the way from Yuma Arizona where we were living at the time. It was a two lane highway and a slow miserable trip because of the bumper to bumper traffic leading to the Salton Sea but once we got there it was a great time playing with my cousins and swimming in the very salty water, just don't open your eyes underwater. This all took place in the late 1950's when the Salton Sea was a pretty thriving area. And yes I'm old!

I remember going to Salton Sea for the weekend as a Boy Scout. We camped in a canyon (with bats flying at night) and we had one kid pass out due to the 100 degree plus heat. I lived nearby at March AFB, Riverside during mid-sixties, those were great memories.

My Boy Scout troop spent a week at Salton Sea in 1982. It was neat to is boys. We were too young to remember what it was like when it was thriving. Now it looks like a dystopian landscape. In all these documentaries I always expect Mad Max to pull up in his interceptor (when he was still with the MFP and before he went mad). They used to have: corvina, sargo, talapia fish in the lake. They used to be big fish in that lake, back in early 80's. We used to camp & fish at Salton Sea. Used to be fun, because you'd have an appreciation for running water, toilet, electricity, even brushing your teeth after camping. We're talking tent and sleeping bags. We did upgrade to cots, once adults took down the tent & found scorpions under the tent. This video, is like going back in time, and everything is now dead. No productive growth. Place has a growing staleness to it. Sad.
