I love that Ryan pointed out in a previous episode that Bart sometimes sounds like he's disappointed he missed out on something. Sometimes he sounds like a slightly frustrated kid trying to explain something to a parent lol

Honestly the most valuable part of public school to me is the social aspect. Its where kids learn to interact with people and develop social skills. All the kids I knew who were homeschooled were pretty weird for a while

U can get that now in homeschooling, there's all sort of activities within the program, u can also take ur kids to extracurricular activities... which to me personally form longer lasting friendships

to be fair, the location (Waikiki) is hard to reach for someone working for probably minimum wage. Hawaii doesn't have good public transportation and parking in Waikiki is straight doodoo and expensive.

I work 60+ hours some weeks at my family’s restaurant so I feel like I have some pretty good experience dealing with Karen customers 😂 9/10 times, it’s between lunch and dinner and when there’s no other customers or they wait to complain until all the other customers have left so that tells me that they know they’re being unreasonable 👀 Obviously, I always start by trying to find a reasonable solution to whatever’s going on but when I can tell that they can’t be reasoned with, I ask them if they want me to get the manager (who they don’t know is my brother lol) before they can say anything about getting a supervisor or manager and that normally ends with them getting embarrassed and leaving lol

Dude, literally!!! It's NOT (the poor work ethic these days) just an island thing. I'm from the east coast, and was a manager. Dude it was exhausting. I had to point out basic shit, dirty tables, go clean it. Trash is full, change it. Crumbs on floor, sweep it. Sugars by coffee low, stock it. No one was visually impaired, why do i need to point out this basic shit????? Someone literally started crying when I told them to sweep behind the machines. "Why do you make me do so much work??" Dude I was gobsmacked.

To be fair to joe though all what school does is just craft good employees. That school conversation got me thinking. For my future kids. I’m not sure if I’d homeschool but I want my kids curiosity to be harnessed. I want my kids to be taught history in it’s entirety though. Yea George Washington was the first President and he freed us from the Brits but he wore dentures that were not made of wood but of ivory and the teeth of the enslaved. As they grow to understand more nuanced and complex topics the what their taught follows closely behind. A true Holistic view of our world and universe as a whole. They’ll be put on from the Big Bang to whatever relevant thing happened the day before. It’ll be the school we choose/create plus our personal touch as parents. (They’ll be taught about religious stuff too, to increase their general religious literacy for their future interactions with their humans. They’ll know why Muslims have Ramadan, why Jewish folk have Yom Kippur, the significance of Diwali to the sun continent, why Christmas exists (also how religious holidays also blend into general culture like how now we see people across many faiths celebrate Christmas for what’s done around then instead of the religious history behind it.. at least in the US anyway I digress☠️) My kids are gonna have the education I wish I had. But at the end of they I’m gonna have em understand that they could truly be whatever they want to be. We’ll have our family mission but they’ll be free to interpret it however they like.

Point of school is not just to get a job. But have a better life and better society because you understand shit. Well maybe not in the US? Also who needs doctors, scientists, engineers, architects amirite??

It should be like that in the US, but people here have the idea that if you're not practically using it, you don't have to learn it. It's like unless you need the degree for work, there's no point. You don't need college, but I feel like there are things everyone should know even if their career isn't related to it. Especially if it relates to society and how the world works. You don't need college to prove you're intelligent but there are some people that believe they know as much as a college student because they know how to Google information (it's funny when they link from a source that's clearly not credible). Also college is very expensive here so unless you know you're getting something out of it, you don't want to be in debt or pay a ton for something you're not using in the long run.

@@Vincisomething "Also college is very expensive here so unless you know you're getting something out of it, you don't want to be in debt or pay a ton for something you're not using in the long run." Good point. It shouldn't be that expensive. Ideally it should be near free. For a solid democracy you need solid education. Uneducated people are easier to manipulate, case in point, all the social media driven conspiracy theories of the last years. I sometimes feel like there are people with an agenda that want to keep as much Americans as possible uneducated. But that's just a feeling.

I think school is pointless, I mean I get it, my grandchildren are in school but their schools are shit. Public school bullshit all the time. My grandson is on the spectrum and they are horrible with him. No matter how much my daughter and I schedule meeting after meeting. My granddaughter is mixed and has to deal with so much racism, even from teachers. Like I think about when I was in school, things are not the same. Idk. I want them to succeed and run the world but it's almost like the deck is stacked against them.
