As a girl who has similar health issues, it gave me so much hope hearing her speak about this in a room full of men. I’ve had men in my life constantly negate and even accuse me of faking “to get out of sleeping with them.” Thank you to all the guys for just listening. Fighting for your health is hard enough without having to fight to be believed.

With this topic my mind immediately went to endometriosis and how I probably wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing in a room full of men. It is so aweful and with it being related to your menstrual cycle, it’s difficult to speak up when everyone has their own opinion about menstruating and what you should be able to handle. The guys handled it well enough lol. I’m glad she had the opportunity to share
@bethnichols2875
@bethnichols2875 Жыл бұрын
All the guys are in long term relationships and mature enough to handle conversations about menstrual issues and to have empathy about it. She probably felt comfortable enough to talk about it with them since they shared their personal stories first. Plus if it takes her out of commission for days, it could affect her ability to work at times. Something they; as her coworkers; would be helpful for them to know.

I’m glad she mentioned how it is because I used to go through the exact same thing when I was younger and was told that the passing out and pain was just “painful periods” and to “Take Tylenol”. My doctor when I was 25-26 finally was like, “Have you tried the pill?” I did and now my periods are painful but nothing compared to when I was younger. I actually have stopped taking BC but thankfully they are still manageable. I however cannot imagine having to go back to this . Everything she said is spot on. I was never diagnosed but literally - this feels like the younger me talking .

I took a birth control shot to avoid having my painful (passed out), heavy (wearing 3 pads at once) periods because I couldn't take any estrogen. I was taking it for over 10 years and found out that there are huge risks if you take it beyond the recommended period of 3 years!! I am off it now and dealing with that. I agree with your guest having this type of pain and not getting good help and pain management is unfortunately typical.

Hi Kalyne! If you haven't checked it out already, you might be interested in chapter 9 of "The Period Repair Manual" by Lara Briden and "Beyond the Pill" by Jolene Brighton. They have been helpful for me! The authors make recommendations like getting estrogen and progesterone tested on day 21, what the actual normal ranges are (which explains why so many girls get told their hormone levels are "normal" by their doctor) and how to read your labs, and supplements you can consider based on which hormones are low/high, and dietary recommendations (e.g., minimizing gluten and dairy), which it sounds like you are already doing! Endometriosis is not an easy disease to manage, but I am happy to see many other encouraging girls and guys in the comments to let you know you are not alone and you are very strong! ❤️

I read somewhere that very painful menstruations (whatever the cause) are common, but not normal. "For some reason" a lot of women think that's just what normal menstrual cramps are like. Sorry, but that Steve story immediately made me think of the most intense version of sounding lmao. Adriana Chechik was talking about a catheter she needed put in during her surgery (broke her back at Twitch con) and told her doctors about sounding guy's dicks. And the doctors were like, now that you mentioned it, some guys would get hard when we'd put catheters in....

I've just recently started recovering from neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome that I've dealt for almost a year. One of the worst pains and I had and it's nerve pain which is another type of pain. At its worst, I could barely move, I'd get so nauseous at even the slightest movement (even just turning my head 5 degrees), and my arms would tingle (not in the good way). When it wasn't as bad, my grip strength was weak so I kept dropping things and it was painful to grip tighter. There were times where I couldn't eat for 3 - 4 days and if I tried, I'd end up throwing it up anyways. It wasn't just the pain made me nauseous, the pain itself felt like a very painful case of nausea that was somehow located near my shoulder/collarbone. I got my first medical marijuana card because of it lol.

For me personally birth control gets me extremely sick so I don’t take it. I heard that most women get depressed from it and once they get off b/c their depression stops. And when I was 19 I had an ovarian cyst the size of a golf ball and it bursted and it was such a horrible pain that I had my mom take me to my gyno because I couldn’t get out of bed due to the pain. Also shoutout to the women who has done natural births. On my 3rd birth my epidural stopped working at 9 centimeters dilated and I had to just deal with the pain and it humbled me so hard lol. Thank God I just had to push for 12 mins because the pain I went through was rough. It’s crazy to think of the different kinds of things women go through.
