I had studied Buddhism & loved all the of aspects of it & learning about the four noble truths it was such a great experience. then I watched a anime called Record Of Ragnarok & saw how awesome Buddha was & applauded how good he was

I was born in a Mahayana Buddhist family, and rediscovered the original doctrine of the Buddha as a grownup. I really appreciate Buddha as a philosopher and a guide, perhaps more so than a transcendent deity, makes his life and lessons that much more inspirational.

I'm an indonesian muslim born and raised in germany. Even though I'm muslim 'by default' I think religion really depends on your own mindset and willpower (duh? Lol). Of course factors like how you are taught a religion and the people that surround you also play a role but in the end I would say it's your own determination whether you keep up with this belief and follow this certain lifestyle. Especially growing up in germany as a muslim it is definitely much more harder (e.g. racism, food option (not that hard anymore but back then definitely much more harder) and praying facilities) than living in a predominantly muslim country but it's no way impossible. You learn ways to adapt and get to co-exist with other non religious people. I've had my fair share of curiosity about other religions. We learnt about them in school and I've talked with my friends about their religions (Orthodox, Protestant and Sikhism). But nonetheless I fell in love with Islam BUT there is an important distinction between culture and religion. Growing up I got to experience Islam more as a culture but now everyday I learn more about it as a religion. I pray five times a day and while for some this might be seen as a burden, for me it's a time where I can relax and it feels kind of like a meditation. I've had days when I was younger where my parents would scold me when I'm not praying and as a result I purposely wouldn't pray just because I didn't like how they would dictate me around.

People believe in other things because it’s hard to believe in the self. An alcoholic can’t believe they’ll be a non-alcoholic. A drug addict can’t believe they’ll be drug free. Believing in something else gives them no excuses and removes the accountability. A person believes in goals, not problems. If the goal is Heaven and the problem is your current behaviors, believing in yourself means thinking the bad version of you is capable of changing, which is extremely hard to believe in.

I was raised a Christian and my questions were never satisfied; it was only when I came back to it as an adult; and searching the texts the Bible and others that I found the truth. Please don't let your child hood experiences stop you from finding out the truth for yourself. The answers are there if you look for them. Much love

Structure means hundreds of years of traditions, morals, and heritage. So much easier to find a job, graduate school, get married, etc when everybody knows you and will help. All the parents and grandparents know all the good restaurants, shops, and schools. There’s so many members in positions at the job you want. It’s basically like a massive social network that’s bigger than a gang or college, international too if it’s practiced globally.

Chinese Buddhism vs different sects of Buddhism seem different to me, and almost influenced by Christianity it seems to me. I'm Japanese and my wife is Chinese. We are both Buddhist, but different sects. She talks more about "gods" and "praying", but in my sect (and honestly I think most Buddhism) there is no god and the praying probably isn't the same as what most ideas of praying are. Also, Geo recently brought up teaching Taika about Buddhism and their being souls, but generally in Buddhism it's actually the opposite and they believe in "no soul". On a side note, to answer Cool Joe's question...one of my cousins (Japanese) moved from LA to NY over 20 years ago and married a Jewish man, and had 3 kids who grew up Jewish. My family actually went to all 3 of their Bar/Batmitzvahs over the years. They were really fun (dance party after ceremony) and witnessing their traditions and ceremonies was very interesting!

As Indonesian muslim sometimes i am very curious on like why is Islam very centralized on arab world. Like it's only mention arab vs the west. Like what about us in the east? Are we not exist in Islam, does Islam knew about Asians? If so then why everything in Islam from the prophet Adam till the end of the world is only about arab vs the west., like are we asian muslims just happend to be adopting Arab cultures into our life?. so far i haven't found the answers that could satisfied me

Im Hmong, and my family we practice shamanism/spirital/animist. Not sure on what it is officially. Its really interesting, and i felt like these new (US)generations won't be able to keep it going since most of them can't even speak Hmong and they dont know the "Kev Dab Kev Qhuas" or "hmoob kev cai" (Hmong ways). I personally don't like how much we drink in the "hmong ways". Way to much and it's not good for our people.

Funny how they say that Christianity is not 'strict enough' but when told that being saved ONLY by faith in Jesus all of a sudden is too dogmatic and jarring 😅 Also very interesting that everyone is talking about preferences and not what is the TRUTH. Faith is not judged by 'hypocrisy' of the followers but by whether or not it is actually TRUE. Nobody here understandss what Christianity is, not knocking on anyone bcus its probably what they were told or maybe what they saw but that is NOT TRUE CHRISTIANITY.

To true! People are always stuck on the “members “ of church but never the relationship with Chris and one’s spiritual journey. Then again growing up that’s whAt stopped me from being saved. Once I understood that the journey is me and god , not to throw stones at my fellow man . I actually fell In love with Christ and his doctrine. Mercy and forgiveness from Him brought me peace💝

To live without desire is the ultimate goal, but the path to it (The Eight-fold Path) consists of basic tenets of good living like right speech, right action and right meditation. Desirelessness is the end state, tough to achieve, but the overall philosophy is basically moderation and wholesome living.

It's the realisation that there is a creater, that's the only one worthy off submitting to (Allah). And by submitting too that creater gives you forfillment and purpose in life. The daily practice makes you aware and keeps you grounded and accountable. Glad you guys see the positivity in islam. The facinating thing is it has guidelines for everything from how to run a state, economy, private affairs and even how to eat and use the restroom etc.

The rules of religion are deep rooted in the times that they were founded. The world now isn't the same as the world back then and so it isn't surprising to see some rules doesn't make sense. Then there's the whole, religious zealots who interpret the rules of a religion in either an extremist way or just a wrong.

Ah religion. It's one of those things i'm hard pressed just compltely agnostic about. The whole idea of faith with zero proof is just too djaring. To this day you can argue with anyone hyper religious about their "proof" that their particular god and their particular practice is the way. But no one can ever find real definitive proof and they always try to act like their perspective will get you. I find it actually far more practical to say that religion is a thing that peopple wanted to weaponize in order to control the masses and many signs point to this but its always overlooked.

I won't believe that your jesus, mohamad, abraham, david, etc etc are any more legit than one another. I grew up shamanism with a lot of Christian, Catholic and other shaman friends. By far my Christian and catholic friends partied, gang banged, drank and did the more drugs then my other friend, which I found odd.
