Not only did the Oocca build an advanced civilization, but they too had a hand in the founding of Hyrule as a kingdom. No, I’m not talking about the appearance of the Zonai and the union of King Rauru and Queen Sonia, I’m talking about THE founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule that set in motion the Era of Prosperity after the Era of Chaos ended. Between the original founding of Hyrule in the timeline most are already familiar with and the new founding of Hyrule depicted in both Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild before it, both have a similar history of advanced civilization and technology leagues ahead of their time, but the background obviously differs. In the original timeline, Goddess Hylia originally intended to establish dominion upon the land until Demise came with the lust for power of the Triforce, after Demise was sealed and later vanquished, the people of Skyloft eventually came to settle on the surface, a generation or two passes and word of the Triforce’s existence gets out, chaos breaks out, magic wielders caused senseless destruction, in the midst of it all, a group of dark interlopers devised a master plan to seize the Sacred Realm, only to be thwarted and banished to the Twilight Realm by the Light Spirits, the Sage of Light, Rauru, and other ancient sages built the Temple of Time as the gateway to the Sacred Realm and sealed its entrance with Rauru sealing himself inside the Temple of Light within the Realm to guard the Triforce. The Oocca came and helped the Hylians build the kingdom and the two races maintained contact between land and sky until time took its course and memories were forgotten. The new founding… is different… there was no mentioning of Demise, the Triforce, or the Oocca, only a race of goat-like god descendants, and the Secret Stones to amplify the powers of those who wield them. Zonai Rauru became a renowned leader, wed with a Hylian priestess, Sonia, and established the Kingdom of Hyrule (or rather THAT specific Hyrule because it bears no connection to the original), and the Zonai just… vanished… except for Rauru and Mineru. The very first Zelda turns out to be the time-displaced Era of the Wilds Zelda, hence how the Silent Princess flower got its name and it was traditional that Princesses of Hyrule were to be given the name in honor of the one who transformed into the Light Dragon. Also, Ganondorf appears (seemingly with no motive of his evil nature), steals one Secret Stone that made him so powerful that none of the others can stand up against him, so powerful that the Triforce of Power looks like a joke in comparison… So between these two foundations, they’re altered realities from each other. The Era of the Wilds didn’t really teach me anything… aside from the fact that Nintendo wanted to “start over”, but was rather hesitant doing so, never taking any of their past titles into consideration and never caring about it. There was a rumor that given how much time it’s been since BOTW started development, members of the Zelda dev team got so fed up making THIS specific era of Zelda that they never cared about how TOTK was shaping and what was missing from it… I mean, 10 years of focusing on one specific world and story, two mainline entries plus a Warriors spinoff that contradicts everything from the original, all of it with the same assets… could you really blame them for getting fed up with it and wanting to move on?

When I saw the Escher work irl, Twilight princess immediately came to mind. It's so nice to find someone out there who has made this same connection to it. Often I'm so flabbergasted by how much the Japanese seem to know about western art and literature to such specific niche degrees, making their way into their fictional forms of media.

I thought you were going to say Prince Ralis because he went from being timid to depressed and in mourning, to afraid to finally taking his place as the ruler of the Zora.

The oocca may be immortal, but that doesn't mean that they can't be killed. It means that they won't die of old age. The word immortal and invulnerable are different words for a reason.
@mver1919 ай бұрын
Pretty sure if you would cut their heads off they die. I wonder how they would taste on a bbq with some good scrub.
@M_Alexander8 ай бұрын
Well immortality and invulnerability are distinct but not quite like that. One means you don't die and the other means you can't be harmed. Some depictions of immortality are "functional immortality" as unlimited longevity but other depictions include surviving what should be fatal wounds. And being invulnerable doesn't inherently include living forever

9:38 well actually it doesn’t matter how the sound of the name sounds in englisch because the original language from the developer is Japanese. The original name is „Oba-chan“ wich is a cute form for „aunt“. Ooccoo probably comes from a combination of obachan and Cocco.

the "other world" paintings are actually not 3 birds, but rather one bird from 3 different angles. i think that was the intent of the paintings, at first they are confusing and make no sense but once you realize this, they become logical and you gain an understanding of this other world. it might be representativ of enlightenment but im not sure on this one.

Glad you considered King Bulblin as one of the Simorgh, I absolutely LOVE him as a character and I always wondered what he did after Twilight Princess. Did he ally his people with Hyrule? It would make for a really good story arc for what was once an enemy of the kingdom to become an ally.

Huh. The explanation of the Simurgh as a Test Of Character/Journey Of Self Discovery actually recontextualizes/foreshadows some bits of Sorush's (a Pari fairy who is a descendant/fragment of an actual Simurgh) questline in Genshin Impact.

I really appreciate and know that you went to great lengths to research this and back up your research with evidence found in the game's world. I've always been really curious about these creatures, it is undeniable that the birds and their dungeon were inspired by M.C. Escher. I do wonder if the developers intended to reflect real world mythology into the game, or if those similiarities were just coincidence, your theories are certainly compelling though.

Simorgh means "thirty birds" and is known to have different appearances? Checks out in a probably unintentional way, that all instances of "a simorgh" or "the Simorgh" you see with the heads of dogs or humans or whatever are descendants of _different_ birds from the original 30 bird kings.

If I could offer some constructive criticism, may I suggest recording each paragraph as a whole. The inflection in your voice at the end of each sentence, makes it painfully obvious that you're stringing many short clips together. It doesn't sound authentic or natural, more like an AI. Otherwise the material was engaging well enough keep up the good work.
