@Brian! This series on woodstoves couldn't be more TIMELY!!! My off-grid cabin came with a pellet stove (my first) and I had my first backdraft and maybe stovepipe/ creosote fire 🔥 at midnight tonight 😅 Luckily the stove was properly installed away from the wall and it has been snowing for a bit... now to let it all cool down so I can open the cleanout and get a brush... or a machete 🤔😉👌 into it and avert a disaster 😅🙏🌐🪬

I miss Salida. I think Colorado and northern Utah will be some of the first places I travel when I hit the road after the kids graduate. Until then it's Idaho for me. This helps me get that itch subdued for now 😉

I have ironwood here (Ottawa Valley in Ontario, Canada) amongst others. It burns very HOT and very dense. Have a couple of types of hickory here, but I don't cut it to burn. Not endangered but not as numerous as they once were.

If I were living out in that area in winter I would have a truckload of firewood sent out to last the whole winter. Also stock up on food to last the winter. That would be the challenge. To be self contained no matter what the elements might bring.
