Howsit guys. I live in Hilo and stumbled upon your KZbin channel in my KZbin homesteading journey. I’m financing an acre in eden roc that I’m dying to start a sustainable life on. As you know, expenses here are high and income kinda low. My flame has been rekindled watching a few of your videos. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to watching all your videos. Maybe even meeting up one day. God bless. 💖

What is the wet tolerant mango you are referring to? Sounds like a leiijiyo, stay green when ripe...slight tinge of pink. Many other mangifera have outstanding fruits and fruit well in wet climates...kasturi, wani, oderata...check em out.

Are your sure durian will fruit on wet side of the island? It needs a dry spell and lower humidity to set flowers. It takes 7 to 10 years from seed and quality variation from seed is big. You need a grafted var if you want to have good fruit.
@OffGridHawaii
@OffGridHawaii 5 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of durian on the Hilo side. The rain does not seem to inhibit there fruiting. You are right if you want a guaranteed good fruit of a certain variety grafting is best. But if you are willing to roll the dice some of the best durian on this side has come from seed.

Just keeping the grass/bushes hacked back is a full-time job in this microclimate. Would love to see an update. @@OffGridHawaii Not cool, hot and dry. Living on a tropical island with rich volcanic soil and regular rain showers... now that is a life of cool comfort and ease. My point is this, farming in such a place and sharing your experience amounts to nothing more than "look how great I have it" as opposed to sharing true permaculture insights with valuable how-to's sourced by your experience. What I see on you channel is farming and land management NOT permaculture. Do you even own Bill Mollison's book? Permaculture is more than a keyword or tag. An example in this video ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5S9oKCordCha6M ) on your channel with the ridiculous solution for maggots in the fruit. What would be the permaculture based solution? There are many more examples in your channel that are cringe worthy to anyone who has read just the first few pages of Mollison's work of genius. You shouldn't tag your channel and videos as educational when they are really about lifestyle and a farm. False advertising.
