The science behind why snow is blue is fascinating. It has to do with the red and yellow light being absorbed by the water leaving only the blue visible to the naked eye. Yes, it only happens with WET snow. Soooooo Cool!

Maybe Next year you could put a loop on the top of the barns and tie a rope on it an when the snow gets thick on the roof, you just pull the rope down under the snow and all of it will slide right off. There are some videos to show how to do it.

Ohhhhh... Organic Cashews or Almonds.... soaked to make Cashew / Almond Milk and ALSO sprouted with this process. Then dried /dehydrated for a tasty snack. I live in a little town in Northwestern Ontario. (Atikokan... It's 1 1/2 hours to the next town.) My neighbour has ducks, and those little girls stay out all year. They have a heated room if they want, but they CHOOSE to stay outdoors even when it's -40 here. Loving the Winter Wonderland!

Hello, thank you for sharing how you are doing in the snow. You remind me of Little House on the Prairie :) Laura Ingalls Wilder books are wonderful. What is interesting is that most of us that are homesteaders, preppers, farmers, etc can get through any kind of weather but others shut down and even cities and towns have snow emergencies. Living on a farm or homestead there is no such thing as taking a break and a snow emergency :) Thank you for sharing have a wonderful day.

Love the helpers. Dad used to take the snowblower to blow paths for the animals. The pond that Dad made was the water source so he would chop a hole with the axe and scoop out the whatevers so the holes would stay clean. The farm truck was had a load of sand in the box from October to April. Not only for the extra weight for winter driving but to put on the paths and around/on the pond for the animals. Dad had all the animals grazing together.

awesome video, so glad we have no snow this winter, its the strangest thing as we usually get tons. omgosh, LOVE Rambo! sooo funny how you said "duck ducks" as thats how i call mine. I only have two runners however, male and female, and 3 muscovies. They are just young, going through their first winter. I don't have a pond as of yet and its sooo difficult doing their water every day as it freezes over. I bought a heated hose, so that helps. Cant wait to get a pond in. You've got a huge one! I see Rambo took over as foreman for Mr. Turkey 😆. Too cold for the turkey foreman. Rambo was like, So, seems like you did a good job. You can totally leave my paddock now 😁. I’d love to write a series of children’s books based on your homestead, with Rambo, Mr. Turkey, the ducks, the horses, Maggie, etc as main characters. Of course y’all would be in the stories too! It’s something I can totally visualize every time I watch your chore vlogs. Could even do them seasonally so the winter stories would be “Little House in the Big Snow”. Could have “Little House in the Big Sun”, “Little House in the Big Wind”, etc. So kids learn about the homestead & animals thru the seasons. I’d love to write your story! On nuts, I never liked any until I reached my 30s. We had 4 pecan trees in the small backyard of our rental house, (entire neighborhood had been a pecan tree orchard prior to development in the 40s & 50s so pecans/trees were literally everywhere up & down the street) so I had tons of organic pecans to clean up & eat. I developed a liking for the buttery taste of pecans. Still don’t eat them a lot though. For butters, I prefer a natural peanut butter to other nuts butters. Thanks for another enjoyable video! Wishing you guys warmer weather soon!

Whew. That is the kind of heavy snow that caves in roofs, green houses and portable carports around here. Sinks boats and boat docks on the lake too. And when all that melts, ooooooo, the mud. Some of the farmers around here will sew their grass seed in the snow, so as it melts into the ground, it takes the seeds with it.

Sand Hollow Idaho only has just over 1 inch of snow so far. A very mild winter and we're expecting 40* weather this week. I've been here since 1970 and have seen many mild winters and some bad ones too. -20* for two weeks was the worst and a few times we've had over 2 ft of accumulated snow, 2017 was one of the worst. The best we can do is prepare for the worst and adapt to the changes. So glad you folks know how to eat right to work hard. Carry on!
