I really love to see how serious you're taking the possible chemical/toxic dangers. Often times it's briefly mentioned but not taken serious or most common thing creators falls into is the good ol' "do as I say, not as I do" act. Thanks for taking these matters seriously, since most (including me) tend to slack more than we should in that area.

Looks amazing , who ever said you can’t put lipstick on a pig is a big o liar! Great video showing that sometimes you do what you need to do so you can get in with the more important stuff. Not every project needs to be a complete tear down rebuild. This new shop gives you sooo much room for activities and the kids are going to love the space as well.

Cadillac job Marc! Isn’t it odd that the wall mastic contained asbestos. We just abated our asbestos floor in the basement and installed new ceramic tile. Our floor guy was suited up, curtained up door ways & vents. He used a 2 gallon sprayer to keep the dust down. All good now. See you on the next installment.

In case hot water is needed at your utility sink, you may add a conventional under sink water heater, 1 - 2.5 gallon water heater that runs on 110V. This is the solution we chose for our accounting office bathroom in MN.

The "CB radio" coax and folded dipoles near the top of that tower were likely for a radio to talk to 911 dispatchers or trucks on the road. Could probably be retuned for ham radio use depending on what frequency band it is.

5:15... that is the exact beadboard I used for my basement laundry room and hallway. Excellent for such use! Just ever so dusty/messy to cut, like any pressboard material. I hope you added fans to the shop with those ceiling heights... help distribute the air and even the temps.
@paulpaul1948
@paulpaul1948 Жыл бұрын
You can talk with your HVAC guy about this but since the existing ducts were for heating only, they may not be insulated. Running cold air through them in the summer, you might get some condensation forming on the outside of them. Worth a check because I'm sure you won't want water drops falling all over your tools, equipment and work.
@dennispope8160

Another advantage of the furnaces is that you can probably install decent filtration on that return (unlike the minisplits, which have very low fan power in order to optimize energy rather than optimizing small particle filtration effectiveness). Given your short runs of duct work and their relatively large internal cross section, I'd bet that using 2" MERV-13 filters on the return would be no problem for your furnace's supply air fans. MERV-13 filters are not expensive, and (as long as the filter frame is air tight) they'll remove 80 to 85% of the small particles of greatest concern for respiratory health (PM 2.5 - the total mass of the particles that have a diameter of 2.5 micrometers and smaller.) I'm referring to 80 to 85% of the particles *every time* that air goes through the filters. Pretty great removal. MERV-13 is the EPA recommendation for homes, and is also an excellent good choice for a woodworking shop. If you're curious about your current indoor air, consumer-grade PM 2.5 particle monitors are not expensive, they display the current indoor air PM 2.5 concentration. They're certainly "accurate enough" for any purpose other than research. For reference, here in the US, the national standard for outdoor air is an annual average for PM 2.5 lower than a max of 12.0 (micrograms per cubic meter). Outdoors it will go far 12 that at some times and far below at other times, but over a year, the location meets national standards for adequate outdoor air quality if PM 2.5 averages out at less than 12. In a typical active workshop-even with dust collection-the PM 2.5 is almost always FAR above that national standard for outdoor air. So adding MERV-13 to the furnace return is a very helpful measure for workers' (and familys') respiratory health.

The amount of asbestos in that building is reminding me of the condemned house we bought to tear down. My wife and I nearly cried when the removal company said it would cost 30k. When we found out the removal included the entire house plus 6 inches of dirt off the surface of the property we were relieved. But as a note the demo cost would have been 15k if there was no asbestos.

Tip for the wax ring selection for the toilet if you are not sure what thickness you need for your floor- just buy the basic one with the rubber sleeve, and one or two of the cheapies that don't have the rubber sleeve. you can just stack them up if extra thickness is needed and the wax will squish together

6:51 I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that with hot glue.. Several years ago I figured out on my own that if I wanted something to hold right away without clamps, get the majority of the surface covered in wood glue and then hit the ends (and maybe a small gap in the middle) with some hot glue. Great for smaller cat tree projects or what's seen in THIS video, but I wouldn't use that method on most serious woodworking projects (knowing WHEN definitely comes with practice). lol
