The letters weren't sticking together, The hammers would jam if you typed to fast,. It was to prevent mechanical jamming. the placement was to try and reduce jamming.

QWERTY was used to reduce the jamming of typebars as they moved to strike ink on paper. The typists were moving so quickly that it would cause the bars to get stuck. QWERTY has the letters placed around letters that would usually not come after one another in a word, as well as gave optimal spacing for all the typing bars.

Silent films had captions for dialogue or descriptions. They were typically written in fancier scripts, many of those are now fonts we use today. Most larger homes have a top loading washing machine but they don't take two hours, more like 40 minutes. Bottles were sealed with either corks or a flip-top, see Grolsch beer, which still uses that style to seal their bottles.

It's a fun video, but I'm sure we can all agree that it's pretty dopey to compare the invention of the iPhone, transistor, and movies with sound to the "invention" of Ranch dressing and cheese on a burger. The first person to sprinkle some shredded cheese on a bowl of chili isn't an inventor! It is just such a weird inclusion of recipes because I'm sure those states had some kind of actual invention.

I think it's sweet that Gaynor makes homemade sauces. My mom, may she RIP, used to make an Italian dressing for green leaf salads, and pasta salads. For Aiden here's a quick fact. Originally, Facebook was for college students only. A college student needed a college email to set up and make a profile. During this time most people used MySpace which was the cool kids hangout. Then when Facebook was open to all MySpace essentially disappeared. Finally, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were good friends and neighbors in Fort Meyers, Florida. Their residences, workshops, and more are a big tourist attraction. I went there with my family in the early 2000's, and was impressed by the workshop, as it still had some inventions in it.

What takes 2 hours to wash? I don't recall how long it took to do the wash when I lived in our house, but it couldn't have been too much longer than the 35-45 minutes it takes when I use the apartment building's washer. Maybe it's shorter to allow more access, but I don't recall thinking it was excessive. Both top loading, btw. But, I guess it fills the drum in a couple minutes, washes in 15-20 depending, rinses in 5-10 depending, spins for about 5-10, and soaks for a couple minutes in between to allow soaking and draining the water. So, that makes sense. I don't think it's ever taken me 2 hours to just wash anything. Not even comforters. Not even the handful of times I went to the laundromat. What's she doing? Does she have a fancy washer that does extra stuff?

@9:00 I'm simplifying, but the way to think of bulletproof vests is that Kevlar is a very tough, very thin fabric that causes force to be distributed over a larger area. A vest might have 50 layers of Kevlar. When a fast moving object (bullet, shrapnel) hits the vest, instead of punching straight through it will tear a few outer layers, but it loses a lot more speed than you would expect since the force is being spread out. It still feels like being punched, hard, but it doesn't kill you. @13:30 Typically, top-loading washers are cheaper with fewer advanced features than front-loading. @15:30 Bourbon is a whiskey made with a mash that is at least 51% corn (maize) and aged in oak barrels. @17:00 Prior to bottle caps, bottles had corks or stoppers (a rubber or cloth plug).

The invention of the "cotton gin" is typically attributed to Eli Whitney, (1793) who was granted the patent in 1794, yet others contributed to its making-including a woman, Catherine Greene and African slaves, two groups that gained little recognition for their input. The inventions that to come out of New Jersey wasn't only Thomas Edison's incandescent light bulb, or first Boardwalk in Atlantic City, or condensed canned soup, nor bubble wrap. The invention of air conditioning invented in early 1900s by an engineer named Willis Carrier (Carrier ac units) in his factory in Newark, N.J. Before bottle caps they used cork. Enjoy watching with you guys, Ed.
@christophercox9311

Exactly: they truly screwed up when they attributed the air conditioning unit to Florida. New Jersey had it first. Because it was already manufactured in New Jersey, people could visit Florida or move to Texas. Without AC, Florida would still be an unpopulated swamp and Texas wouldn't be anything more than a back water. AC created the ability of the south to become an economic power house.

Alphabetical keyboard layout was changed to QWERTY (first few letters of top row) The alphabetical layout was intended to make it easier to find the keys, hence typists were too quick for the machines to function properly without jamming. However, that theory has been recently challenged by the fact that telegraph operators were part of the first users & the alphabetical layout wasn't efficient e.g. translating morse code, but the alphabetical layout wasn't more efficient for anyone allegedly. (the mechanical aspect is challenged too) So, you weren't wrong, but the plot thickens! (And the electric typewriter inventor was born in Texas but was in Kansas City when he invented it.)

I think you had a bad washer. A load takes about 20 minutes now anyway. Bottles used to have corks like in wine, then flip tops which clamped closed before the cap. You'll find the flip top still in us on some beer brands. Actually the atomic bomb was developed in Los Alamos NM and it was tested further south in the state and far away from Alamogordo NM, however that was the closest town to the military base where it was detonated.

The need to include all 50 states really diluted the caliber of inventions on the list. All our best inventions came out of few states so a lot of good ones had to be omitted like the internet, smartphones, search engines or KZbin (which all lost to Windows for their state) or GPS satellites not being mentioned for Virginia.

Hey guys love the videos as always. But for some reason, The audio in the videos without Daz is always very low. It's not because he is loud 😀, it's just some reason the total volume on your videos is much lower.

Top and side loaders are both common now but side loaders didnt really become popular untill the last 10-15yrs I would say. Funny story... growing up, my grand mother had a top loader and during holidays and parties would fill it with ice and use it as a cooler for beer and soda cans.

You got silent movies a little wrong. You didn't make up what they were saying, everything said was put into a frame of the movie, the actors would say something and then it would cut to the words they said displayed on the film. Then back to the actors for the next line, then cut to what they said. During the movie someone would often be playing the piano with music for that movie. Well Sophie is in focus but now Aiden is glitching, you all are CGI aren't you? Aiden don't listen to Gaynor and Sophie about bottles before the bottle cap. Before the bottle cap, bottles were all corked.
