A lot of buffets have their leftover food delivered to homeless shelters or churches that feed people. They can do it as charitable contributions rather than as a food waste cost on their accounting. It's a win win for everyone.

Not all places. If someone gets sick they are liable which is why a lot of companies throw food away
@jeffp6426 Жыл бұрын
@@HamburgerHelperDeath this is an urban myth. A lot of restaurants are afraid to donate their waste because of this rumor, but there has never been a lawsuit in the US that held a restaurant liable for donating food in good faith.
@HamburgerHelperDeath Жыл бұрын
@@jeffp6426 wrong. I won’t post the full article but most of it: Activists will respond that no one has ever been sued for donating food, and that food donors are protected by the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act, which means that the idea of being sued for donating food is a myth and an excuse that businesses use to not be bothered enough to the right thing. But there’s the thing. If farms, restaurants, and grocers start donating the food they usually throw out, then two significant things will happen: The composition of donated food will change drastically. Lawsuits for food donations are low at present in part because most donated food is non-perishable (e.g. canned food). The stuff that businesses throw away, on the other hand, is usually perishable and, therefore, much more likely to get someone sick. Non-perishable donations are statistically rare precisely because of item 1. If those donations were to increase, the instances of people getting sick are statistically guaranteed to increase as well, along with the likelihood that someone will get sued. Activists, again, usually have an answer for this. First, that the kinds of people that use food pantries and food banks don’t have the money to hire a lawyer to sue anyone, and even if they did, the Good Samaritan Act will protect you. Here’s the problem with those assumptions: First, it’s not just the person who gets sick that you necessarily have to worry about suing you. It’s the insurance company that pays their hospital bill. Insurance companies have counsel both on staff and on retainer, and since they’re already paid for, they’re not afraid to use them. Nurses have been sued for breaking ribs while administering CPR to car crash victims; people have been sued for giving aspirin to people who appeared to be having heart attacks. Insurance companies, as anyone reading this should well know, do not give a single sh*t about anything but protecting their shareholders. If a lawsuit looks cheaper than a medical bill, somebody’s getting their a** sued. And this bring us to the “protections” of the Good Samaritan Act (GSA). The important thing to know about the GSA is that it limits your liability, but it doesn’t keep you from getting sued. If you get sued, you’re going to wind up in a legal fight to prove you aren’t liable. And that, my friends, is where I’m going to share the lessons I learned when I would up in civil court, sued by a landlord who tried to blame one of my employees for mold in the home we rented for our farmhands. The first revelation:

I don't get Aidan's queue comment, buffets move pretty seamlessly here. Don't think I have waited behind more than one or two people ever.
