I think the idea of jail is certainly scary for him, but he is also a human being. I'm sure he felt real shitty about how it went down because he lost control of himself. While I'm sure most of his thoughts centered on himself and how this would affect him, at least some part of him was shaming himself for such a massive screwup that cost a man his life. This is a direct result of training our police to be so overly reactionary and shoot first. In the state I live (WI) you can become a cop and have the ability to kill people while enjoying qualified immunity with a 2 year technical school education. In order to be licensed as a mortician in my state you cannot have less than a bachelor's degree. If a cop engages in misconduct in one department he can simply go to the next town and be hired. If a mortician is hit with misconduct they will have their license to practice the trade revoked in WI and most other states will uphold that as well. Why does someone who only deals with dead bodies come under more scrutiny than someone allowed to make them? Why do you have to have more years of education to embalm a corpse than to create one? In the county I currently live in (Chippewa) we have a Sheriff who is not allowed to do investigations or handle evidence because he's on the list with the DA of people who aren't credible to put on the stand. Let that sink in. He is at the top of the food chain and direct supervisor of all Chippewa County law enforcement yet is deemed by the prosecutor to have such a crooked past that putting him on the stand at a trial of a criminal is a liability. This is due to some things he did as a cop in Chetek, WI which is about 35 minutes north of his current office that he holds. Yeah, I don't dial 911 where I live. I have more than enough resources to repel an assault upon my home and I frankly would trust a pile of methed-out felons over what I know would be sent to my home. But my taxes have to pay them regardless. At least I only have to pay a mortician when I need one, and he's likely to be a professional.

Her answer is also keeping her employed. She spent money on school to be a cop, and even though cops are always trying to force other people to tell the truth they take a very different stance when truth is told about them. If she tells the actual truth about what a fellow cop did on the stand she'll be blackballed out of her profession. No other agency will hire her. The thin blue line is basically denoting a gang and you can't ever cross your gang. A Baltimore cop who spoke out years ago after the murder of Freddy Gray has never been hired in law enforcement since. He had to find a whole new line of work. All he did was say the truth of what he saw, but because that painted some cops in the bad light they deserved it wasn't ok by other cops. They don't view themselves as part of citizenry. They view it as US vs. THEM and all non-cops are lesser beings who need to be controlled. Thats how they are trained.
