I once fed a cop a burger laced with jalapeño seeds, cooked in jalapeño juice. He came back the next night and said it was great but his ass hurt in the morning. Then asked if I could make it but with a little less kick. I said “no problem, cornbread.” From then on I cooked his burgers and chicken in the juice, minus the seeds. He’d pretend to not catch me smoking weed and I’d pretend he didn’t notice. He was my fuzz bud.

Goes to show on who had the power here, in the end it was the teenager, I don’t think it’s right for what the kid did and if we didn’t have the freedom of speech this cop would have been right in what he did, in this case it came down to his ego being hurt and instead of ignoring it or maybe talking to his parents one on one to let them know what their son is doing, this cost him his job, so the cop learned a lesson and the kid is probably still doing this, I don’t think the cop was wrong he just went about this the wrong way.

As an adult - which last I checked, cops are supposed to be - I wouldn't have any urge to terrorize a bunch of kids and break the law in the process because they called me a "bad word". Like seriously, your grammar and manner of typing lead me to believe you're not a fucking child, yet you insist that this cop's actions were justified, even considering the great power AND RESPONSIBILITY given to him over the people who pay his salary. I've seen 18 year old Starbucks baristas with more self control than this guy. I don't understand how you can see this as anything more than an insecure man's attempt at trying to prove he's a "big man", despite what his wife may think. He is an officer of the law, he has a lethal weapon at his disposal at all times, he should act like it, not like some meathead who failed out of boot camp and is insecure about his height.

However the avg person is wrong about what the cops job really is. Allow me to explain..... "To serve & protect" is only half the sentence. "the RULING CLASS" is the second half. Peasants do not get police protection. Once more people come to understand this then we can see why police actions are the way they are. To an extent, but it is best to remember that some level of respect should be fundamental. Or more to the point, just as respect should be earned so too should disrespect. You don't run around yelling obscenities at people you don't even know, and a uniform is not justification for that. In this case, homeboy happened to prove him exactly right, but the message still stands. Upon first meeting with a stranger, you should treat them neutrally. Not respectfully, not disrespectfully.

At least he showed his belligerence out in the open with this. Admittedly I'm in another country (UK) but so many times I've seen cops take their frustration out on those innocent of causing that frustration. Normally I'm easy going and understand bad days happened to everyone but it'd happened to me or I'd seen it happen so many times over a couple of short years back in the day, where rude and belligerent cops vent their frustration on people, that I'd had enough and filed a complaint. I was returning from visiting my parents. There's a stretch of road with a 60mph limit, hilly in places and bends in others but there is a straight stretch about a mile long and I was behind a driver who clearly thought his precious vintage sports car, which he likely drove maybe twice a year, needed it's outing. He didn't once even reach 25mph so the second I had the chance to pass him safely, I did. Shortly after finishing the pass an oncoming vehicle flashed me. Here in the UK drivers have a habit of flashing to let other drivers know there's a cop, maybe set up with radar in a hidden spot or a cop car near you. There was a cop van following me, I knew it was there and thought nothing of it, I did nothing illegal. Or maybe the guy was a jerk, flashed me just to give the cop an excuse. But I did nothing illegal so who cares, right. Only the cop did use it as an excuse but since there were cars between me and him and he was in a van, used to transport multiple cops to a raid or event, it took him another mile to catch and pull me over. Where I live, we call everyone a variety of "mate" "bud" "pal" or even "duck" so I asked him "what's up mate?" He then vented, telling me I'm no mate of his and berating me for making a perfectly legal overtake. He demanded to know if I had children in the car, told him he can see I do, my young son and my wife were passengers. Asked him why that matters since what I did was perfectly safe. Note he did not even once attempt to ticket me, ask me how fast I was going or made any enquiry to indicate he suspected an offense, he literally stopped me to vent is all. After 5 minutes of him haranguing me and me calmly repeating I did nothing dangerous or wrong, he went to leave. I sat back in my car before thinking, no, I'm not putting up with this so I got out, approached his vehicle and demanded his name and badge number. I suspect he wasn't even going to write this up but we'll see about that, waste my time just to vent on me will you. He then pulled around me without signalling (dangerous since I was in front and other cars were coming up behind) and since we're now in a 30mph limit and I was doing 30mph, he pulled ahead of me, so clearly speeding, likely end of shift and he wanted to make up the time he spent on me. Got home, made the call. An hour or two later a senior officer called me back. Listened to me and in a bored fashion demanded what I wanted him to do about it, like I was being unreasonable by expecting him to do his job. By now I'd calmed down though and realised the cop who pulled me to vent had almost certainly been at a day long event in my mother's town (she mentioned it, used to happen once a year) and likely had to tolerate a day of snippy or even rude people. So I explained that to the senior guy on the phone too while my empathy kicked in. I said, "I get he probably had a really bad day and while no excuse to pull me over just to vent, I will trust your judgement. If the guy had a record of this sort of thing I expect you will throw the book at him but if this was a one off, note it and explain proper behaviour to him but go easy because no way do I want an otherwise good cop to lose their job over a momentary lapse". I could hear him thinking, wow, that was easy and he was now very polite as we both hung up. No idea what happened to the angry cop, don't care, but totally coincidentally I did stop seeing or experiencing rude cops out and about, though this was years ago (my kid is 18 now) and I've seen a few since. To be fair too, had some good experiences with many since. There was one stationed where my then wife worked as well as many cops in and out of there (she worked at what you Americans call the Morgue) so if I visited her and sometimes had to wait to give her a lift, several would keep me company with a chat. Nice people, none having a bad day. Glad I didn't push it but then came lockdowns and my specific county's boys in blue did some major overreach, but that's another story and covered in both national and international press as egregious examples of same here.
