The problem was a lack of competition and a solitary party in a command economy environment "To each according to his need", that's the Communist mantra. If you manage three factories, you have a greater 'need' than someone who just manages one factory....who's to say you don't manage 15 "factories"? Lies and corruption brought the Union down, fudge your metrics to improve your station in the party...barter "quid pro quo" with other party members to keep oversight blind. By the 80's, there were factory combines...even whole cities that simply never existed, setting records and winning awards for production quotas of nonexistent products Gorbachev was the sucker left holding the crap bag overfilling with feces, glasnost and perestroika was nearly as devastating as an American nuclear strike...whole Oblasts were economically wiped out once the books were cleaned up In the US there is corruption, yes...but there is also competition and rivalry. Cooking the books will be caught long before getting so cartoonishly out of hand...and you can only buy one party, at the expense of pissing off the other party whom will sick oversight and regulatory boards to audit you
@reapthewhirlwind2114
@reapthewhirlwind2114 5 жыл бұрын
@@dangutridge3783 "To each according to his needs" has absolutely nothing to do with property ownership. It's a utopian principle that simplifies and explains the character of a developed, classless society with surplus commodities, and therefore cannot be applied to your argument. You're thinking of either Lenin's "he who does not work shall not eat", which was to be applied to the bourgeoisie, or Marx's prior "to each according to his contribution" which relates to the socialist, not communist, system of exchange, in which a worker's prescribed value is to be general and not proportional; that is, no one worker may earn more than another, but multiple workers will cumulatively earn an equal reward.

The Soviet Union may have been dissolved but it's legacy still continues to this day ! As a Bangladeshi, I am grateful to the Soviets who helped and aided us during our War of Liberation in 1971 against Pakistani Imperialists! We were strongly supported by India and the Soviet Union whereas Pakistan was aided by US, UK and other Western Nations as well as Middle-Eastern Nations! The Americans wanted to send their Navy Fleet in the Bay of Bengal due to Soviet Cruisers, this certainly saved the City of Chittagong from American Invasion! Richard Nixon, the president of the US also called Indira Gandhi, the prime minister of India at that time "Bitch" and gave Pakistan a lot of planes! Due to Soviet help, they were frightened to attack ! Our War of Liberation started on 26th March 1971 and we eventually earned our victory in the blood of 3 million Bengalis on 16th December, 1971 with Indian and Soviet support ! The newly Independent state of the ' People's Republic of Bangladesh' was formed ! Without the Soviets, we may never have gotten this nation! Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Father of the Nation of Bangladesh visited Soviet Union the very next year in 1972 and met with Leonid Brezhnev ! The Russians have supported us during our hardest time ! They're our brothers ! Love the Soviet Union (now Russia) from People's Republic of Bangladesh ! May our Friendship prosper ♥♥★★!

This song gives me hope. For all its faults, humanity lost something irreplaceable when we lost the USSR. I hope that one day we’ll be able to learn from the both USSR’s successes and fault build something even more beautiful.

China picked the winning horse between America and Soviet Union and adjusted to the modern consumer era much better than the Soviets, to put it lightly.. China integrated markets into it's existing system in a brilliant way, which basically used the American system against America and let America hollow itself out for the profit of it's elites at the expense of it's people... They know America's government represents the rich and not the collective mass, and the western industrialists saw dollar signs, new markets, and high profit margins with the opening up of China in the 1970s.. This benefited the western multinational corporations, but hurt the average American. America thought the money would corrupt the Chinese, but America was the one that got played.. whereas the Soviet Union's attempts at integrating markets into it's existing system in the 80s was a catastrophic failure by any metric lol. That combined with the nationalist movements in the eastern bloc and the disastrous Afghan invasion (provoked by America covertly taking over the country and trying to hand it over to Al Qaeda) that was the end of the Soviet Union. Unlike America, the Soviet Union's military interventions cost them money, whereas Americas interventions are a business in and of themselves.. America's interventions were motivated by making money for private industry to milk countries of their labor land and resources .. the Soviets intervened to protect existing socialist governments and support nationalist anti-colonial movements, they were not exploitative in the capitalist sense.. they were only exploitative in the context of eastern europe being forced to become part of the Soviet bloc.. but that was motivated by security concerns and the fact that the USSR felt they needed to literally force these previously Nazi collaborating oligarchic governments to become socialist and be friends with Russia because Russia could no longer tolerate being invaded over and over and over and over again by western capitalist countries trying to foment civil wars and overthrow the Communist party. Russia had been fending off constant invasions from America, England, France, and then the big one from Germany from the very second the October Revolution began until the end of World War II. There were always markets in the Soviet Union, but they were black markets and localized.. it wasn't organized in a way that would be recognizable to people in the west. Then by the 80s when Gorbachov tried to do his market reforms it was just a complete debacle of corruption and outright theft. The Soviet Union's leadership particularly Kruschev and Gorbachov doomed that country. People have the misconception that commerce = capitalism and that buying and selling things = capitalism but that's ahistorical.. markets existed before capitalism and they will exist after capitalism.. it just comes down to 1. who does the government overseeing these markets represent and 2. do the bankers control the government or does the government control the bankers... In America the bankers control the government and in China the Party controls the bankers. The other common misconception is that communism is a rejection of capitalism.. it's not a rejection so much as an evolution... (Capitalism > Socialism > Communism.) Marx saw capitalism as a stage of development (1 of 6) .. he saw capitalism as a greater mode of production that feudalism.. The Eastern countries did not have the industrial capitalistic histories of the western European countries like Germany, France and England did and it seemed to be a surprise to European intellectuals that the eastern countries were the ones to have Marxist revolutions because those countries were in some ways skipping a stage of development that people like Marx had outlined decades prior. Knowing this, it's not much of a contradiction for a state working toward achieving communism to do the type of things China is doing, because the goal is creating surpluses and abundance, the goal is always growth. The surpluses are simply used communally rather than for stock buy-backs and private speculation. Private entities do not own the means of production, the communist party does.. The market serves the overall system.. rather than the system serving the market. Capitalists who do business in China do business on the Communist Party's terms, therefore you don't have things like the 2008 financial crash in China because those bankers would be in prison.

I was first exposed to the Soviet Union and its anthem after I watched Olga Korbut win in the 1972 Olympics. I watched Olympics just to hear their anthem and see that iconic flag. It was a country that produced so many great gymnasts, chess players, cosmonauts, ice hockey players, Bolshoi Ballet, violinists like David Oistrakh. And who can forget the formidable Red Army and its crushing of fascism ? The world owes a big debt to the Red Army and the Soviet Union. It was a mistake to invade Afghanistan, that created the conditions to undermine the Soviet Union.
@MAM-pd9mx
@MAM-pd9mx 2 жыл бұрын
It was not a mistake, it was planned by the U.S.... The chief of staff of Reagan said "We are gonna give the USSR their own Vietnam War" as if the USSR provoked the Vietnam War in the first place..... It WAS a mistake for humankind in general... and the mistake we are making today is still trusting the U.S.

I was in the US Navy in the early to mid 80's. When a Soviet ship would come close aboard and steam alongside I never looked over and thought I was looking at my enemy, more like an opponent in a sporting contest. I knew they were there defending their country and interests just as I was and at so many levels wanted the same things out of life I did. I cannot say that about the current world or ISIS and Islamic extremists, I view those as the enemy of the west for 1400 years and if the US and Russia wise up and defeat it we will all be better off.
