Man this is really cool. The vibrate and double shoulder buttons are nice addons. An alternative for the DIY folks would be this: get the RetroBit wired 6 button genesis controller; also get the 8BitDo Sega 6-button DIY PCB kit. Swap PCBs, and enjoy wireless 6-button play. (note that a tiny amount of the shell where the wire originally comes out needs to be shaved to fit the LED) I don't know what or how retrobit do it, but the feel and accuracy of the Dpad on their wired controller (including when paired with the 8BitDo PCB) is fantastic. It may be the best d-pad I've ever used so far (especially for one that isn't made from clicky tactile switches - a personal preferenece thing). Hadouken, dragon punches, and 360s work consistently!

The dpad looks like it's popping out! By watching you playing with it it seems like the dpad feeling would be more similar to a xbox360 second gen dpad than to the Megadrive/Genesis Controller. You should make a comparison with every modern Megadrive/Genesis controller like this one, the M30, the Retroflag, etc

I double checked comparing to the USB version, and the bluetooth version I received uses a different designed D-pad. It still feels fine and responds well in my opinion, but yeah it is slightly different which makes it sit a little higher.

I looks like it responds well but the feeling wouldn't be the same as it looks like it kinda of slides or have too much travel, by comparison the Saturn one that you reviewed on the other video seems more tigh. But I'm just guessing here, the thing with controllers is that you have to test by yourself to get the real feeling of it. Sorry for being nitpicky :)

@@andremalerba5281 Heya, in order to fit the rumble motors we had to raise the DPad up by 1mm. This change doesn't impact feel or gameplay although it is noticeable to sharp-eyed folks. :)

Quick note about using this controller with the Sega Genesis Mini. It's possible to use it by plugging a Bluetooth receiver to a controller port, then installing the Bluetooth Linux module (using Hakchi for instance) and pairing it. Unfortunately the controller has no mode for the Genesis Mini. This is not a problem when using a third-party emulator like Retroarch because the buttons can be remapped. Not so with the stock emulator however. I found that the Mac mode (X + Home to pair) is the only mode where buttons other than the d-pad work, but then the button mapping is wrong. I reached out to Retro-Bit to see if there could be some solution, like making a custom mode with a different button mapping. Waiting for an answer.

Though I already own the 8bitdo controllers, I really would love to own both the blue and black Sega controllers. I already own a SF2 Genesis controller, and I love the feel of the buttons and d-pad. Great review of the controller, dude!

I have been waiting for one right now, I love the Sega Genesis controller, but with a 8 button I might as well go for a Saturn. 6 button should be Genesis as it was meant for it, but I digress more buttons more features for a larger market like for the switch, PC, and other games.

Hi, I just picked up this controller, is there a trick to connecting this on the pc? Instructions say to plug in USB. I do that and nothing happens. I tried home + A and works once then I have to re-pair to connect again... I already returned one of these bluetooth ones because I thought it was a defect. Im just a bit confused on what im doing wrong here, any advice?

same problem here, the joypad works like a charm with genesis mini, but when i tried to connect it to the pc, NO WAY. No way via the usb receiver, no way via usb data cable. And I followed ALL the manual instructions. They should label it as "PC compatible IF YOU'RE LUCKY"

I bought 2 Retro Bit controllers, 1 wireless and 1 wired. The wired one just randomly stopped working, the Bluetooth one never turned at all, maybe the battery permanently died while being in the package.

I dont remember if I did, though I know I did a video on the Nintendo one. I do think the Nintendo Genesis controller is nice quality maybe better than the retrobit.. but its also only a 3 button controller so it kind of loses a point for that lol.

Looks like they feel like their usb version which I really like. I have the blue ones but this shade looks slightly different. The 8bitdo ones are a bit small for me so I am thinking of selling them and getting these instead esp since they are made with Sega. Which do you like better?

Wow I have the blue retrobit sega genesis USB controller and the dpad sticks out way more on this wireless one than mine does. I wonder why. I've been really happy with the usb controller btw.

I compared and yeah it sticks up a bit more than the usb version. After disassembling it looks like the one I received uses a different D-Pad design than the usb version. It still feels fine to me and responds well.

Asked Retro-bit about this and it was stated that had to change the design slightly to accommodate the rumble motors, battery etc in this specific shell. So the dpad was slightly raised, but how its designed it still feels and performs how the usb controller did. For me it works great.

Pausing the video to get a nice look at the battery. I can't tell for sure but it looks like the battery has an actual connector to connect the battery to the board. Would you be able to confirm that? I really like 8bitdo controllers but I can't stand how they solder their batteries in.

Got mine yesterday megadrive and Saturn Bluetooth, I'm yet to try on the actual consoles themselves but after testing on a snes and megadrive emulators hmmmmm a few teething problems like button mapping not matching up and loosing connection. Hopefully connecting to the consoles will be fine but so far not looking good..

@@johnproudlock2900 Well that's why I asked that question and since I don't have the M30, I wouldn't know. I have the Retro Bit Sega Saturn USB and I like it though my first order had a couple of issues but my reissue never had those issues.

I think the feel of the retrobit is much nicer than the m30. Retrobit has a soft button feel like the original while the m30 rattles if you shake. And it does about 100% hadoukens like the original 6 button sega controller. The retrobit paired fine with my windows laptops and android phone. Only downside (for me) to the retrobit is it wont pair with my raspberry pi. It does work wired with the Pi though. M30 will pair with my raspberry pi but doesnt work in the emulators....regardless of that it still doesnt feel as nice as the retrobit. Madcatz WWE 6 button wired xbox controllers feel about as good as the M30 and pull more hadoukens.
