Great video Tom, I learn about these items on everyone's videos about Western knives. I was a scout in 1958, using my dad's old WWII knife and a Plumb axe (the axe came a couple years later). As a collector my research tells me you are spot on with the dates in the 50s for the Kit Karson Kit. I think the older Plumbs are a bit rounder along the edge than the later ones but idk. I have a set of Western BSA knives from 55, very similar markings. Note: The BSA fleur-de-lis symbol stamped on the blades changed at least once varying between the First Class symbol and the Tenderfoot symbol though I don't know when it was changed. Maybe another viewer knows.

Great set. I have my BSA Plumb hatchet from way back when. Similar and made a little later (1970 ish). The L66 BSA is a terrific variation of that Western. Lots of great memories made with those knives.

I keep my eye out for a ‘deal ‘ on one of these combos… No trigger pulling yet… Did help her son-in-law restore a bunch of his great grandfather’s tools ,, Boy Scout hatchet was in the bunch.. a Collin’s I believe… ( it’s been a few years and I’ve slept since then so I could be wrong) One the most rewarding projects I have done with another guy. Two year project on all the tools plus they were organizing displayed well in the shop. Big diff. Start to finish .. we should’ve took pictures.

That western knife is awesome. I found mine in the garbage 12 years ago. I have used it ever since. I own many knives and that knife is my favorite. I actually contacted bark river about possibly make a repro of that knife. No response 😕

@@knifedelights7473 There are some of both models on eBay some are quite expensive but I’ve been able to aquire a couple for less than 30$. You just gotta look. I don’t get out to the flea markets here in Florida in the summer. To hot for an old broken down sailor.

I have just got into collecting and refurbishing old knives this year even though I’ve always had and used knives. I recently decided to look through my grandfather’s carpenter toolbox at my dad’s, hoping to find a knife to restore, but no such luck. But I was delighted to find a Plumb axe that is in perfect condition. It has the name with a square corner border and USA underneath it. I’m guessing it’s most likely from the 50s but no idea.
