Love the new technologies going into this camera, like AF selection by looking at the subject, Backlit sensor etc. … proves my investment in RF Glass right! Those technologies will trickle down eventually and the lenses will still be very good :) So for me sticking with my basic R body, investing in good glass and having a great outlook for new bodies if I ever feel the urge :)

Yeah I'm only disappointed by the really poor battery life, I thought the bigger battery would mean like 3x the amount of usage or frames but it's not. It's equal to or worse than the Nikon Z camera's and Sony camera's CIPA numbers. Also the mechanical shutter of 12fps is disappointing since the 1Dx Mark III can do 16fps!

At 12:26, yes in theory the readout speed is 25% better than the A9ii, however the A9ii has less distortion, and the ball would look more rounded. Why is that? It's simple and Sony mentioned that in their presentations: the A9 has extra circuitry that does rolling shutter distortion compensation. So even with a slightly worse readout speed, it's able to produce better results.

I reached a point of camera tech saturation about a year ago. I no longer feel the goody-feeling stuff anymore. I received the Adorama and B&H e-mails about the EOS R3 and felt nothing. After selling my barely-used Sony a7R II and lens and keeping my Nikon D70s and Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro antiques, I attained a weird internal tranquility. Still, here is my thumbs-up, because I still enjoy photography and these videos take a lot of work to put together and make. The Canon EOS R3 is a beast of a sports and action camera for $5999, but I don't know what camera would need to come out to get me compelled to buy it. Thing is, they all make amazing pictures regardless of sensor size. It's about getting the right tool for the job. I can already picture people desperately preordering the EOS R3 thinking that FINALLY, they will have the camera they needed to take their photography to the next level. If they only knew that the next level happens in the heart, not in the hand with a new camera. 😁👍

There is one advantage to the LCD not being completely flush: when facing backwards, there is less reflection of the photographer and less glare from a light source right behind you, like the sun. The main deficit is when shooting yourself with the LCD flipped forward, because it's a little awkward to center yourself properly. May I presume that the eye-control AF works with back-button focus? I tried a Fuji X-T4 for 2 months and it just wasn't strong enough in video performance and video autofocus for me to keep it. Even though it has a great movie / still switch that separates the video settings from the video settings. The R3 does everything I wished the X-T4 would have done, including 6k video with excellent continuous video autofocus. Because I want to shoot a little wider so I can keyframe my rotation and position and scale and export to 4k. So now I know what the price tag on that performance is and why the X-T4 just doesn't match that level of performance.

Jared, you can flip the screen around to lay flush against the back of the camera to have that alignment you want. This also works on every other Canon flip out screen.

at 1:19, it weighs 30% less, not 70% less. You could also say it's 70% the weight of the old camera.

Canon R3 literally killed off all of their 1DX series. There was no point in releasing the 1DX Mark 3 but Canon released it anyways because they didn't want to waste their R&D money.

Exactly! If I was among those people buying one just a year ago I would've been so pissed...

Nah, there’s definitely still a generation of shooters who will pick up a DSLR over mirrorless still. Obviously, mirrorless has surpassed, but they’ll make money giving the option of a DSLR that’s comparable.

Long time sports photographers will live and die by the DSLRs as they are proven workhorses. Many of them have existing EF lenses and have no need for any of the RF lenses. I've met one sport photographer shooting with a 1DX Mark I and a visually busted looking EF 70-200 2.8 Mark I. They still worked flawlessly and he told me he had no reason to upgrade. It got the job done and his newspaper clients were happy. He said he would only upgrade if his gear malfunctioned and they didn't have the parts to fix it.

@@TC-cd5sm Mirrorless cameras are proven to be better workhorse than DSLR cameras today. We all know DSLR still gets the job done but Mirrorless gets the job done faster, efficient, better and more convenient. Mirrorless still works flawlessly too and gets the job done that clients would be happy with especially social media clients who needs those photographs right away. Technology has greatly improved cameras to new heights now more than ever before. Others who still wants to stick with their outdated DSLR can still do so. Others who prefer the new powerful mirrorless will upgrade. Once global shutter becomes the norm, shutterless cameras will be the next big thing and then DSLR will be obsolete while mirrorless will still latch on. Sony will leap again since they can afford to invest heavily into R&D.

@@harryvuemedia5106 You don't have to convince me. I've already moved to a Canon EOS RP and stopped using my Mark IV. I'll be soon moving to either two R3s or an R3 + R5...maybe a 1DX3 + R3 (thank you work lol). Those diehard sports photographers... now those are the folks you're trying to convince. Of course, in the end, they could very well be just too damn cheap to upgrade LOL

The eye control is game changing. It’s like the older canon EOS cameras with eye control, but you have to look at the pre destined AF point. What if you let someone borrow your camera? Do you have to recalibrate it each time? Or do they create profiles?
@Noeman20093 жыл бұрын
It has 6 slots, you can recalibrate on the same slot, it will make the ECF more accurate because it has the learning capability. I know because I had EOS5/A2E that also has eye controlled focus (ECF).
