EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST/SELECTION DOCUMENT: 2018 JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS & 2018 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT
Taekwondo New Zealand (TNZ) is finalising selections for the Junior World Championships (JWC) over the coming weeks. This tournament will be held in Hammamet, Tunisia from 9th - 13th April, 2018.
TNZ is, in the first instance, seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from players / athletes who would like to be considered for selection in the 2018 JWC.
If selected, TNZ will also be requiring a commitment from the player’s and their parents to:
A 2017-2018 summer training programme which will involve clubs, instructors and TNZ.
The costs that will be involved in preparing for, and traveling to the JWC in Tunisia.
From the players selected for the 2018 Junior World Championships, TNZ will be assessing whether any will be put forward for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Qualifier that is also being held in Tunisia from 6th - 7th April 2018.
NZ can only put forward 3 male and 3 female players for the YOG Qualifier, and if selected for this separate tournament TNZ will be requiring a commitment from the player’s and their parents to:
A 2018 training programme which will involve clubs, instructors and TNZ.
The costs that will be involved in preparing for, and traveling to the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in October, 2018.
TNZ is not committing to select a full team for the 2018 Junior World Championships. It is also not committing to select 3 male and 3 female players for the Youth Olympic Games Qualifier.
All junior athletes / players will need to be able to demonstrate a history of good performances in national and international tournaments and show that they can compete at the high levels required at the 2018 JWC and YOG Qualifier.
In order to be considered for selection for the 2018 Junior World Championships (Tunisia, April 2018), players must be born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2003. You must be a Kukkiwon Dan or Poom certificate holders. You must be a current registered member of TNZ. You must be a World Taekwondo Global Athlete Licence holder.
In order to be considered for selection for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games (Buenos Aires, October 2018), players must be born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2002. You must be a Kukkiwon Dan or Poom certificate holder. You must be a current registered member of TNZ . You must be a World Taekwondo Global Athlete Licence holder.
The 2018 Junior World Championships weight divisions will be as follows:
Male:
Under 45kg / Under 48kg / Under 51kg / Under 55kg / Under 59kg / Under 63kg / Under 68kg / Under 73kg / Under 78kg / Over 78kg
Female:
Under 42kg / Under 44kg / Under 46kg / Under 49kg / Under 52kg / Under 55kg / Under 59kg / Under 63kg / Under 68kg / Over 68kg
When expressing your interest, please confirm the weight division you would like to be considered for.
Note that if there is more than one player in your weight division, and you are all at the required standard, TNZ will make selections based on past performance, commitment to training and possibly a one-off knock out selection tournament - to be held before the end of 2017 or in early 2018.
