@@InfernalAIM-All of those techniques are still in the system, just not allowed in WT-competition sparring. In the latest Kukkiwon Textbook (2022), there are boxing style hand strikes, high guard, knees, elbows, takedowns/throws and joint locks in the selt-defense curriculum, and also a statement that Taekwondo is a self-defense system first, sport second.

excuse me, this is WT Taekwondo, not Old School Taekwondo, which is ITF. Taekwondo has kicks but also hand techniques, elbow, piercing finger and also grabs and disarmings.

This is why I HATE "Taekwondo" as it's shown in these tournaments and taught in schools. FYI, this isn't real Taekwondo. This would be "Tae-do", at best, without any "kwow" (hand) in it. All you see is flying kicks and zero balance. REAL Taekwondo (The way of the HAND and the FOOT) is more similar to Karate's stances and grounding compared to whatever acrobat show this thing is. None of these fools would defeat a real Taekwondo expert, as it also includes several blocks designed to stop kicks, and hand techniques that forge the hands into weapons, just like in Karate. Think about it next time you see a fool in a gi jumping and twisting like a broken marionet. Unfortunately, the real thing is rare to find these days, there are a couple good examples in movies and (some) in videogames that portrait it correctly, but that's it.

We can no longer watch the most used moves of the ITF past, as I think that modernity has reshaped the teaching of the art and WTF athletes do not learn what seems to be reserved for the few. Either today's masters are selfish in their teaching or the federations turn a blind eye to promoting the potential of the art. SilvaDoBrasil

The electronic scoring system isn't what ruined TKD sparring IMO. How they use it to count weak kicks for points instead of setting the power threshold higher is certainly a contributing factor, but this nonsense where if my sock slightly rubs your headgear then I get 3 points has really lowered the quality of the sport/ martial art.

@@NDcompetitiveshooterimo it’s the rules, the restrictions on type of kicks, the restrictions in clinches, the restrictions of falling on the ground. Electronic sparring probably will make sparring more eventful as refs won’t have to actively stop matches to count points.
