Couldn’t agree with you more. Was just saying the same thing. That port was a major eyesore. When we hosted the summit of the America’s. It’s taking up prime real Estate. The same as the Nelson and George St, projects. If they are serious with developing the city. These areas Need to be taken seriously!

Most successful transformations and upgrade of port infrastructure has to deal with an increase in the size of the shipping carriers. To future proof the investment, the draft of the ports have to be increased....by shifting its operation off-site solves expensive dredging and edge design complications. We must see further down the tunnel...Use the existing assets to leverage the cost of expansion and allow POS and other caribbean island ports to operate in a much more effective way. The Gulf of Paria in Trinidad and Tobago is already a natural port...the old wrecks need urgent removal...then we can talk.

All ports around the world seeking to upgrade their facilities have recogniised that the land on which they stand is their greatest asset. The cost of relocation of the Port of Port of Spain to a more efficient off-site can be offset by the PPP model applied to both its existing land and the proposed relocated site. We must recognise that its present location stands in the way of the full deveopment of a modern Port of Spain. Examples of this is as close as Jamaica and as far as Singapore. The Point Lisas Port remains available and under-utilised to aid in the proposed transformation of the Port of Port of Spain. The question is....Do we have the Vision to make it happen?
