They could be hinting at his characterisation being in some way similar to 11 (though obviously it will hardly be the same). Alternatively, Murray Gold might just be sprinkling references to previous doctors into the themes and I'm just picking up on 11 the most.

It's hard to argue with all this version does right, but having grown up a fan of classic Who, I really miss the power of that eerie howl, which is almost buried here. Listening to the Howell version of the theme, you can really feel how powerful that howl was, and all the orchestral textures serve to dramatically deemphasize it.

I absolutely LOVE that the "middle 8" is not only back but is choral. Back in the day it felt like Murray Gold was never able to crack making that portion of the theme fit with his musical style. This is the PERFECT solution to that problem.

Having Murray Gold back on the show is the best thing ever. I know this may sound absurd to some but his music was the thing I missed most about the show in the past years. I own every Soundtrack release from season 1-9 that he worked on. I am still miserable that there wasn't one for season 10. Waiting for the season 14 soundrack release is, right now, just as exciting to me as waiting for the 60th anniversary special, seeing David and Catherine back in action and watching Ncuti becoming The Doctor. I've said this before, but this theme is probably my favourite Dr Who theme of all time. It combines the best musical cues and leitmotifs from all of the previous themes whilst having its own unique sound to it, making it also feel fresh and new like with every iteration of the famous theme thus far. I'm so hyped to hear the studio version of this incredible theme in all its glory. Murray Gold is the man.

Most of the vibes I get from this arrangement come from the TV movie and I love that theme, so it gets my approval for that. Very much taps into the "thrill of adventure" side of the show, I love the use of a choir and the middle 8 is always a joy to hear. That said, I would've liked it to also reflect the mystery and otherworldliness as well, which I got more from the 2005, 2010 and 2018 arrangements if we're talking purely NuWho themes. It also sounds too busy that it's drowning out the ever iconic bassline, but that might likely just be down to hearing it from an orchestra in a concert hall, so it'll be interesting to hear the broadcast mix. Really good arrangement, but not looking to be a favourite.

It's alright but for the 60th Anniversary I would like the Radiophonics Workshop original to be somewhat more emphasised within this version. It gets somewhat drowned out by the mix. Perhaps the tv mix will feature the original melody sounds more prominently.

People need to remember, this was an orchestral performance for a concert at the BBC - the version to be used and heard on the actual TV show will sound different, that is just the way it is with music played in a concert, and then used for a show. So stop complaining until we hear it in November 2023 in the specials for the 60th.
